1. Introduction

This manual provides detailed instructions for the installation, operation, and maintenance of your WERCHTAY 30A Solar Charge Controller. This intelligent regulator is designed to manage power flow from solar panels to batteries and loads, ensuring efficient charging and protection for your solar power system. It is compatible with 12V and 24V systems and features a dual USB output for charging external devices.

2. Safety Instructions

  • Install the charge controller on a flat, well-ventilated surface indoors. Avoid outdoor exposure to moisture.
  • The charge regulator is suitable only for lead-acid batteries: OPEN, AGM, GEL. It is not compatible with nickel hydride, lithium, Li-ion, or other battery types.
  • This controller is designed for use with photovoltaic panels as the charging power source. Do not use DC power or other power sources for charging.
  • Ensure correct polarity when connecting components. Incorrect connections can damage the controller and other system components.
  • Always connect the battery first, then the solar panels, and finally the load. Disconnect in the reverse order.
  • The LCD screen may show a voltage error of 0.2V to 0.3V; this is normal operation.

5. Setup and Installation

Follow these steps for proper system connection. Always connect components in the specified order to prevent damage.

  1. Connect Battery First: Connect the battery to the battery terminals of the charge controller. Ensure correct polarity (+ to + and - to -). The controller will detect the system voltage (12V or 24V) automatically.
  2. Connect Solar Panels: Connect the solar panels to the solar panel terminals of the charge controller. Ensure correct polarity.
  3. Connect DC Load: Connect your DC loads (e.g., lights) to the load terminals of the charge controller.
  4. Connect Inverter (Optional): If using an inverter for AC loads, connect it to the battery terminals (not directly to the load terminals of the controller).

Important: Disconnect components in the reverse order: Load → Solar Panels → Battery.

6. Operating Instructions

6.1 LCD Display and Buttons

  • Digital Display Area: Shows voltage, current, and other parameters.
  • Voltage Symbol (V%): Indicates battery voltage and percentage.
  • Hours: Used for timer settings.
  • Current Symbol (AH): Indicates current flow and accumulated ampere-hours.
  • Panels Icon: Indicates solar panel activity.
  • Load Identification: Indicates load status.
  • Charging Logo:
    • Steady on: Direct charge/Lift charge
    • Slow flash: Float charge
  • Five Battery Level Mark: Visual indicator of battery charge level.
  • Output Identification: Indicates power output status.

Button Functions:

  • Left Button (Main Page): Press to browse through different display screens and parameters.
  • Middle Button (Turn On/Off): Press to turn the load output on or off.
  • Right Button (Flip Down/Manual): Used to navigate menus and adjust parameter values.

6.2 Parameter Settings

To access and modify parameters:

  1. Browsing Interface: Press the Left button (Main Page) to cycle through different display screens and parameters.
  2. Setting Parameters:
    • While browsing interfaces 2-5 (Float Charging Voltage, Discharge Recovery Voltage, Discharge To Voltage, Load Mode), press and hold the Right button (Flip Down/Manual) for 3 seconds to enter manual setting mode. The number will blink.
    • Use the Middle button (Turn On/Off) to increase the value and the Right button (Flip Down/Manual) to decrease the value.
    • After adjusting, the setting will automatically save after 3 seconds of inactivity.
    • To restore default values, press and hold the Middle button (Turn On/Off) for 5 seconds.

Adjustable Parameters:

  • Float Charging Voltage (Default: 13.7V): The voltage at which the battery is maintained after full charge.
  • Discharge Recovery Voltage (Default: 12.6V): The voltage at which the load output will reconnect after being disconnected due to low battery.
  • Discharge Stop Voltage (Default: 10.7V): The voltage at which the load output will disconnect to protect the battery from over-discharge.
  • Load Mode: Timer setting for load output (ON/OFF hours).
  • Battery Type:
    • b1: Lead-acid (OPEN, AGM, GEL)
    • b2: Ternary lithium
    • b3: Lithium iron phosphate

7. Maintenance

  • Regularly check all connections for tightness and corrosion.
  • Keep the controller clean and free from dust and debris.
  • Ensure adequate ventilation around the controller to prevent overheating.
  • Periodically verify battery voltage and health.

8. Troubleshooting

  • LCD Voltage Discrepancy: A slight error of 0.2V to 0.3V on the LCD screen is normal and does not indicate a malfunction.
  • Controller Shutdown (Low Battery): If the battery voltage drops below 8V, the solar controller will automatically shut down the load output to protect the battery. The load will reconnect when the battery voltage recovers to the Discharge Reconnect Voltage (default 12.6V).
  • No Charging:
    • Check solar panel connections and ensure they are receiving sunlight.
    • Verify battery connections and ensure the battery is not completely discharged.
    • Check for any error codes or indicators on the LCD display.
  • No Load Output:
    • Ensure the load output is turned on via the Middle button.
    • Check load connections.
    • Verify battery voltage is above the Discharge Stop Voltage.
