2. Pairing for Security (Optional but Recommended)
To create a more secure powerline network, you can pair the devices:
- Press the Pair button on the TL-PA7017P adapter for one second.
- Within two minutes, press the Pair button on the TL-WPA7617 extender for one second.
The Powerline LED on both devices will turn solid, indicating a successful pairing.
3. One-Touch Wi-Fi Configuration (Wi-Fi Clone)
You can instantly clone your router's Wi-Fi network name (SSID) and password to the TL-WPA7617 extender for a unified network:
- Press the Wi-Fi Clone button on the TL-WPA7617 extender.
- Within two minutes, press the WPS button on your router.
The Wi-Fi LED on the extender will turn solid, indicating successful cloning. Any Wi-Fi settings adjustments on one powerline adapter are automatically synchronized across the whole powerline network.

Operating the Powerline Network
Extending Wired and Wireless Coverage
The TL-WPA7617 KIT utilizes your home's electrical wiring to transmit network data, extending your internet connection to areas where Wi-Fi signals might be weak or non-existent. The AV1000 powerline technology ensures high-speed data transfer over distances up to 750 feet through walls and floors.

Gigabit Ethernet Port
The TL-WPA7617 extender features a Gigabit Ethernet port, allowing you to connect wired devices such as smart TVs, game consoles, desktop computers, or network-attached storage (NAS) directly for a stable and high-speed connection. This is particularly useful for bandwidth-intensive activities.

OneMesh Compatibility
The TL-WPA7617 KIT works with TP-Link OneMesh compatible routers or mesh Wi-Fi systems to create a unified network. This allows for smart roaming, ensuring your devices automatically connect to the strongest Wi-Fi signal as you move around your home, providing uninterrupted streaming and browsing.

Passthrough Design
The TL-PA7017P adapter features an integrated power socket, allowing you to plug in another electrical appliance directly into the adapter. This ensures that you don't lose an electrical outlet when using the powerline device.

LED Control
The LEDs on the extender can be controlled via the TP-Link Tether app. This allows you to turn off the LEDs, for example, during nighttime, to avoid light disturbance.

Maintenance
To ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your TP-Link Powerline WiFi Extender KIT, consider the following maintenance tips:
- Firmware Updates: Regularly check the TP-Link official website for firmware updates. Keeping your devices updated can improve performance, add new features, and enhance security.
- Cleaning: Keep the devices clean and free from dust. Use a soft, dry cloth to wipe the surfaces. Avoid using liquid cleaners or aerosols.
- Ventilation: Ensure the devices are placed in well-ventilated areas. Do not block the ventilation holes on the adapters, as this can lead to overheating.
- Proper Placement: Avoid plugging the powerline devices into surge protectors, power strips, or extension cords, as this can significantly reduce performance. Always plug them directly into a wall outlet.
Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your powerline network, consider the following common troubleshooting steps:
No Powerline Connection / Slow Speeds
- Electrical Circuit: Powerline adapters must be on the same electrical circuit for connectivity. If your home has multiple electrical panels or circuits, this could be the cause.
- Direct Outlet: Ensure both powerline devices are plugged directly into wall outlets, not into surge protectors, power strips, or extension cords. These can filter out the powerline signal.
- Electrical Noise: High-power electrical appliances (e.g., washing machines, refrigerators, air conditioners) plugged into nearby outlets can cause electrical noise and interfere with the powerline signal. Try moving the adapters to different outlets.
- Wiring Quality: The quality and age of your home's electrical wiring can affect powerline performance. Older or poorly maintained wiring may result in lower speeds.
- Distance: While powerline can extend up to 750 feet, very long distances or multiple circuit breakers between devices can degrade performance.
Wi-Fi Issues
- Wi-Fi Clone: If you used the Wi-Fi Clone feature, ensure the process completed successfully. If not, try repeating the Wi-Fi Clone steps.
- SSID/Password: Verify that your devices are connecting to the correct Wi-Fi network name (SSID) and using the correct password.
- Interference: Other wireless devices or networks can cause interference. Try changing the Wi-Fi channel on your router or extender if possible.
Resetting Devices
If issues persist, you may need to reset the devices to factory defaults. Refer to the Quick Installation Guide for specific reset procedures for the TL-PA7017P and TL-WPA7617.
