Model: 50L Distillery Kit w/ Condenser & Pump

Brand: VEVOR

Introduction

This instruction manual provides essential information for the safe and efficient operation, setup, and maintenance of your VEVOR 13.2Gal/50L Alcohol Still. Please read this manual thoroughly before initial use to ensure proper functionality and to prevent injury or damage to the equipment. This still is designed for home brewing and distillation, offering a robust and user-friendly experience for producing various spirits, distilled water, and essential oils.

Safety Information

Always prioritize safety when operating distillation equipment. Improper use can lead to serious injury or fire.

  • Ensure adequate ventilation in the operating area to prevent the buildup of flammable vapors.
  • Keep the still away from open flames, sparks, and other ignition sources.
  • Do not leave the still unattended during operation.
  • Always wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), such as heat-resistant gloves and eye protection.
  • Ensure all connections are tight and secure before starting the distillation process to prevent leaks.
  • Monitor the temperature closely using the built-in thermometer.
  • Allow the still to cool completely before disassembling or cleaning.
  • Keep children and pets away from the operating area.
  • Familiarize yourself with local laws and regulations regarding distillation, as they vary by region.

  4. Connect Water Pump and Hoses: Connect the water pump to the lower inlet of the condenser keg using one of the silicone tubes. Place the water pump into a bucket or reservoir filled with cold water. Connect another silicone tube from the upper outlet of the condenser keg back to the water reservoir to create a circulating cooling system.

Image: Highlights the built-in thermometer, which offers a dual display in Celsius and Fahrenheit for convenient and accurate temperature monitoring.

  6. Attach One-way Air Evacuation Valve: Install the one-way air evacuation valve into its port on the lid. This valve is crucial for releasing pressure during fermentation if you choose to ferment directly in the still.

Operating Instructions

Once assembled, follow these steps for operation:

  1. Fill the Fermentation Barrel: Pour your raw material (e.g., fermented mash, water for distillation) into the fermentation barrel. Do not overfill; leave adequate headspace for boiling.
  2. Start Heating: Apply heat using your chosen method (gas stove, electric ceramic heater, etc.). Begin with moderate heat to slowly bring the contents to temperature.
  3. Monitor Temperature: Continuously monitor the temperature using the built-in thermometer. For alcohol distillation, the temperature should typically reach around 80°C (176°F) for vapor to begin forming.
  4. Activate Cooling System: Once the temperature approaches the distillation point (around 80°C), activate the water pump to circulate cold water through the condenser keg. This will cool the vapor, causing it to condense back into liquid.
  5. Collect Distillate: The condensed liquid will exit through the outlet spout of the condenser. Place a collection vessel (e.g., a glass jar) beneath the spout to collect the distillate.
  6. Adjust Heat and Cooling: Adjust the heat input and cooling water circulation as needed to maintain a steady flow of distillate and the desired temperature range.
  7. Completion: Continue distillation until the desired volume or purity is achieved. Once complete, turn off the heat source and allow the still to cool down completely before disassembling.

Maintenance

Regular cleaning and maintenance will prolong the life of your still and ensure optimal performance.

  • Cleaning After Each Use: After each distillation, allow the still to cool. Disassemble all parts and thoroughly wash them with warm water and a mild detergent. Use a brush for hard-to-reach areas.
  • Rinsing: Rinse all components thoroughly with clean water to remove any detergent residue.
  • Drying: Dry all parts completely before storage to prevent water spots and corrosion. Air drying is recommended, or use a clean, lint-free cloth.
  • Gasket Care: Inspect silicone gaskets and tubes for any signs of wear, cracks, or damage. Replace them if necessary to maintain a tight seal.
  • Storage: Store the disassembled still in a clean, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.

Troubleshooting

Here are some common issues and their potential solutions:

  • Leaking Connections:
    • Ensure all clamps and buckles are tightened securely.
    • Check that silicone gaskets are properly seated and not damaged. Replace if worn.
    • Verify that silicone tubes are firmly attached to their respective ports.
  • No Distillate Flow:
    • Check if the heat source is sufficient and the contents have reached the boiling point.
    • Ensure the cooling water pump is operating and circulating cold water effectively.
    • Verify that the condenser is receiving adequate cold water.
    • Check for any blockages in the vapor path or condenser.
  • Inconsistent Temperature Readings:
    • Ensure the thermometer is fully inserted into its port.
    • Verify the thermometer is clean and free from residue.
    • If readings are consistently off, the thermometer may need calibration or replacement.
  • Low Yield/Purity:
    • Ensure proper temperature control throughout the distillation process.
    • Verify the cooling system is efficient enough to fully condense the vapor.
    • Check the quality of your raw material.
