Whadda WSG3400 Automatic Electronic Dice Kit Instruction Manual

1. Product Overview

The Whadda WSG3400 is an electronic solder kit designed to create two independent automatic electronic dice. This kit provides an engaging and educational experience for hobbyists and is suitable for use in board games where traditional dice might be inconvenient. The electronic dice eliminate issues such as dice falling off the table or disputes over results, ensuring fair and clear outcomes.

Key features include:

  • Two fully independent electronic dice.
  • Option to operate with one or two dice.
  • Automatic display shutdown after 30 seconds to conserve battery power.

2. Kit Contents

Before beginning assembly, verify that all components listed below are present in your kit. Refer to the image below for a visual representation of the components.

Individual components of the Whadda WSG3400 Automatic Electronic Dice Kit laid out, including a blank PCB, resistors, capacitors, LEDs, and integrated circuits.

Figure 2.1: Individual components of the Whadda WSG3400 kit. This image shows a blank green printed circuit board (PCB), various resistors, capacitors, red light-emitting diodes (LEDs), integrated circuits, and other small electronic parts, all neatly arranged for assembly.

  • Printed Circuit Board (PCB)
  • Integrated Circuits (ICs)
  • Resistors
  • Capacitors
  • Light-Emitting Diodes (LEDs)
  • Transistors
  • Push buttons
  • Battery holder (batteries not included)
  • Other small electronic components

3. Setup and Assembly

This kit requires soldering and basic electronics knowledge for assembly. Follow the detailed instructions provided in the separate assembly guide (if included with your kit) or refer to the circuit diagram and component placement on the PCB. Ensure you have the necessary tools, such as a soldering iron, solder, wire cutters, and safety glasses.

3.1. Assembly Steps (General Guidelines)

  1. Identify Components: Carefully identify all components using the provided parts list and their markings.
  2. Solder Low-Profile Components First: Begin by soldering components that lie flat on the PCB, such as resistors and diodes.
  3. Solder IC Sockets (if applicable): If IC sockets are provided, solder them before inserting the Integrated Circuits. This protects the ICs from heat damage.
  4. Solder Larger Components: Proceed with capacitors, transistors, and push buttons.
  5. Solder LEDs: Pay attention to the polarity of the LEDs (anode and cathode).
  6. Connect Battery Holder: Solder the battery holder wires to the designated pads on the PCB, observing polarity.
  7. Insert ICs: Carefully insert the Integrated Circuits into their respective sockets, ensuring correct orientation.
  8. Visual Inspection: After assembly, thoroughly inspect all solder joints for bridges, cold joints, or incorrect component placement.

This image displays the green printed circuit board (PCB) populated with various electronic components including red light-emitting diodes (LEDs) arranged to form two dice, resistors, capacitors, and integrated circuits. The LEDs are illuminated, indicating the dice are active.

4. Operating Instructions

Once assembled and powered, the electronic dice kit is ready for use. The device is designed for simplicity and ease of operation.

4.1. Powering On

Insert the required batteries (not included) into the battery holder, ensuring correct polarity. The device should power on automatically or upon pressing a designated button (if present).

4.2. Rolling the Dice

Press the designated button(s) to 'roll' the electronic dice. The LEDs will illuminate in a random pattern, displaying a number from 1 to 6 for each die. The kit features two independent dice, allowing for individual or simultaneous rolls.

4.3. Selecting Number of Dice

The kit allows you to choose between playing with one or two dice. Consult the specific button functions on your assembled board to switch between these modes. Typically, a dedicated button or a sequence of presses on the roll button might control this feature.

4.4. Automatic Shutdown

To conserve battery life, the LED displays will automatically turn off after approximately 30 seconds of inactivity. To reactivate the dice, simply press a button again.

5. Maintenance

Proper maintenance ensures the longevity and reliable operation of your electronic dice kit.

  • Cleaning: Keep the PCB and components free from dust and debris. Use a soft, dry cloth for cleaning. Avoid using liquids or abrasive materials.
  • Storage: Store the kit in a dry environment, away from extreme temperatures and humidity.
  • Battery Care: Remove batteries if the device will not be used for an extended period to prevent leakage and damage.
  • Handling: Handle the assembled board carefully to avoid bending the PCB or damaging soldered connections.

6. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your electronic dice kit, consider the following troubleshooting steps:

  • No Power/LEDs Not Lighting Up:
    • Check battery installation and ensure correct polarity.
    • Verify that the batteries are charged or replace them with new ones.
    • Inspect the battery holder connections for secure soldering.
  • Incorrect Dice Results:
    • Review all solder joints for cold joints or solder bridges that might be shorting connections.
    • Ensure all Integrated Circuits (ICs) are correctly oriented and fully seated in their sockets.
    • Check the polarity of all diodes and LEDs.
  • Intermittent Operation:
    • Look for loose connections or components.
    • Ensure the power supply is stable.
