1. Introduction and Overview
This manual provides essential information for the proper use, maintenance, and care of your HJC i50 Flux Off-Road Motorcycle Helmet. The HJC i50 Flux helmet is designed for off-road motorcycle use and meets stringent safety standards, including DOT FMVSS 218 and ECE 22.05, ensuring a high level of protection.
Please read this manual thoroughly before using your helmet to ensure maximum safety and to understand its features and functions.
2. Safety Information
Your safety is paramount. Always wear a helmet that fits correctly and is securely fastened. This helmet is certified to DOT FMVSS 218 and ECE 22.05 standards, indicating it has undergone rigorous testing for impact protection.
- Proper Fit: A helmet must fit snugly and comfortably. If the helmet moves freely on your head, it is too large.
- Chin Strap: Always fasten the chin strap securely. The strap should be tight enough that you cannot remove the helmet by pulling it from the front or back.
- Impact Protection: This helmet is designed to absorb the energy of an impact by partial destruction of the shell and liner. Even if the helmet appears undamaged after an impact, its protective capacity may be compromised. It is recommended to replace any helmet that has sustained an impact.
- Chemical Exposure: Avoid contact with petroleum products, cleaning agents, paints, adhesives, or other solvents. These substances can damage the helmet materials without visible signs.
- Proposition 65 Warning: This product may expose you to chemicals known to the State of California to cause cancer and birth defects or other reproductive harm. For more information, visit www.P65Warnings.ca.gov.
3. Components and Features
The HJC i50 Flux helmet incorporates several design elements for performance and comfort:
- Advanced Polycarbonate Shell: Provides a lightweight yet durable structure, engineered for superior fit and comfort using CAD technology.
- SLID Technology (Sliding Layer Impact Distribution): Designed to reduce rotational acceleration that can occur during oblique impacts, enhancing shock absorption.
- Aerodynamic Peak Visor: Reduces wind resistance and minimizes lift at high speeds. It offers a maximum range of adjustability and is impact-resistant.
- Extended Eye Port: Maximizes visibility, providing a clear view of the terrain.
- Goggle Fit Shell: Features dual positions for the goggle band to ensure a secure and comfortable fit with various goggle types.
- Ventilation System: Equipped with 9 intake vents and 4 exhaust vents for optimal airflow, keeping the rider cool.
- Comfortable Interior: Features moisture-wicking, quick-dry fabric. Includes glasses grooves for comfortable wear with eyewear and a spacious chin area for easy breathing.
- Smart HJC READY: The helmet is prepared for integration with Smart HJC Bluetooth communication systems (sold separately).

4. Setup and Initial Use
- Unpacking: Carefully remove the helmet from its packaging. Inspect for any visible damage.
- Fitment Check:
- Place the helmet on your head. It should feel snug around your cheeks and the top of your head.
- With the chin strap unfastened, try to rotate the helmet from side to side and front to back. There should be minimal movement. If it moves easily, the helmet is too large.
- Chin Strap Adjustment:
- Fasten the chin strap securely. Ensure it is tight enough that you cannot pull the helmet off your head by rolling it forward or backward.
- The strap should not cause discomfort or restrict breathing.
- Visor Adjustment: The peak visor can be adjusted for optimal sun protection and visibility. Loosen the side screws, position the visor, and retighten the screws.
- Goggle Placement: Position your off-road goggles within the extended eye port. The helmet's design accommodates various goggle sizes and features dual positions for the goggle strap to ensure a secure fit.
5. Operating Instructions
Proper operation involves correctly wearing and securing the helmet for every ride.
- Wearing the Helmet: Always put on the helmet by holding the chin straps apart and pulling the helmet down over your head. Ensure your ears are not folded over.
- Securing the Chin Strap: Use the double D-ring retention system. Thread the strap through both D-rings, then back through the first D-ring only. Pull tight until snug under your chin.
- Ventilation Control: The helmet features fixed intake and exhaust vents designed for continuous airflow. No manual adjustment is required for these vents.
- Eyewear Compatibility: If you wear prescription glasses, utilize the integrated glasses grooves in the interior padding for a comfortable fit.
6. Maintenance and Care
Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and effectiveness of your helmet.
- Exterior Cleaning: Clean the helmet shell with a soft cloth, warm water, and mild soap. Avoid harsh chemicals, solvents, or abrasive cleaners, as these can damage the shell material and graphics.
- Interior Cleaning: The moisture-wicking interior padding can be removed for cleaning. Hand wash with mild soap and water, then air dry completely before reinserting.
- Visor Care: Clean the peak visor with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive materials that could scratch the surface.
- Storage: Store your helmet in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. Use a helmet bag to protect it from scratches and dust.
- Inspection: Periodically inspect the helmet for any signs of wear, cracks, or damage to the shell, liner, or chin strap. Replace the helmet if any damage is found or if it has sustained an impact.
7. Troubleshooting
This section addresses common issues you might encounter.
- Helmet feels too loose or too tight: Ensure you have the correct size. A helmet should fit snugly without causing pressure points. Refer to HJC's sizing guide if available.
- Chin strap discomfort: Re-adjust the chin strap to ensure it is not twisted and is positioned correctly under your chin. It should be snug but not painfully tight.
- Goggles do not fit properly: Adjust the goggle strap position on the helmet. The i50 Flux has dual positions for goggle bands. Ensure your goggles are compatible with off-road helmets.
- Reduced airflow: Ensure all vents are clear of obstructions. The helmet's ventilation system is designed for optimal flow during riding.
- Noise issues: Ensure the helmet is properly seated and the chin strap is secure. Wind noise can vary based on riding conditions and motorcycle fairings.
