4. Camera Overview

4.1 Front and Side Views

4.2 Rear View and Controls

4.3 Top View and Mode Dial

4.4 EF-S 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM Lens

This versatile zoom lens offers a focal length range of 18-135mm, suitable for a variety of shooting situations. It features Image Stabilization (IS) for reducing camera shake and an Ultrasonic Motor (USM) for fast and quiet autofocus.

5. Setup

5.1 Charging and Installing the Battery

  1. Insert the LP-E6N battery into the LC-E6 charger. The charging indicator will illuminate.
  2. Once charging is complete, the indicator will turn off. Remove the battery.
  3. Open the battery compartment cover on the bottom of the camera.
  4. Insert the charged battery into the compartment, ensuring it clicks into place. Close the cover.

5.2 Inserting a Memory Card

The camera uses SD/SDHC/SDXC memory cards.

  1. Open the memory card slot cover on the side of the camera.
  2. Insert the memory card with the label facing the front of the camera until it clicks into place.
  3. Close the memory card slot cover.
  4. To remove, push the card in once to release it, then pull it out.

5.3 Attaching the Lens

  1. Remove the body cap from the camera and the rear lens cap from the lens.
  2. Align the red dot on the lens with the red dot on the camera's lens mount.
  3. Rotate the lens clockwise until it clicks into place.
  4. To remove the lens, press the lens release button and rotate the lens counter-clockwise.

5.4 Installing the W-E1 Wi-Fi Adapter

The W-E1 Wi-Fi Adapter is an SD-card-sized accessory that provides Wi-Fi connectivity.

  1. Ensure the camera is powered off.
  2. Open the memory card slot cover.
  3. Insert the W-E1 Wi-Fi Adapter into the SD card slot. Note that this adapter occupies one of the memory card slots.
  4. Close the memory card slot cover.
  5. Refer to the camera's menu for Wi-Fi settings and connection procedures after installation.

6. Basic Operation

6.1 Powering On/Off

Locate the power switch, usually near the mode dial. Slide it to the ON position to power on the camera. Slide it to OFF to power off.

6.2 Selecting a Shooting Mode

Rotate the mode dial on the top of the camera to select your desired shooting mode:

The EOS 7D Mark II features a 65-point all cross-type phase-detection AF system for viewfinder shooting and Dual Pixel CMOS AF for Live View shooting.

7.1 Video Recording
