2. Setup and Initial Use
2.1 Battery Installation
The MAKINGTEC B-40 Laser Measure operates on alkaline batteries, which are typically included. To install or replace batteries:
- Locate the battery compartment cover on the back of the device.
- Open the cover by sliding or unlatching it.
- Insert the batteries, ensuring correct polarity (+/-).
- Close the battery compartment cover securely.
2.2 Powering On/Off
- To Power On: Press the MEAS button. The device will turn on and be ready for measurement.
- To Power Off: Long press the OFF/CLEAR button for more than 2 seconds.

3.1 Single Distance Measurement
- Ensure the device is powered on.
- Point the laser at the target surface.
- Press the MEAS button once. The measurement will be displayed on the screen.
3.2 Unit Switching
The device supports multiple units of measurement. To switch between units (meter, feet, inch, feet+inch, inch with fraction mode):
- Long press the Unit button. The unit will cycle through the available options.

3.3 Reference Point Adjustment
The measurement reference point can be set from the front or the back of the device. This is crucial for accurate measurements depending on where the device is placed.
- Short press the Unit button to toggle between front and back reference points. An icon on the display will indicate the current reference point.
3.4 Addition and Subtraction
The B-40 allows for adding or subtracting measurements.
- Perform a measurement.
- Press the + button for addition or the - button for subtraction.
- Perform the next measurement. The result will be added or subtracted from the previous one.
3.5 Data Storage
The device can store up to 50 groups of measurement data.
- To view stored data, long press the Data Memory button.
- To clear data, short press the OFF/CLEAR button while viewing data.
4. Measurement Modes

4.1 Continuous Measurement
This mode allows for dynamic measurement, continuously updating the distance as the device is moved. It is useful for finding minimum and maximum distances.
- Press the MEAS button to enter continuous measurement mode.
- Move the device, and the display will show real-time measurements, along with minimum and maximum values.
- Press MEAS again to exit.
4.2 Area Measurement
To calculate the area of a rectangular space:
- Press the Area/Volume/Pythagorean button until the area icon appears on the display.
- Measure the first side (length) by pressing MEAS.
- Measure the second side (width) by pressing MEAS.
- The device will automatically calculate and display the area.
4.3 Volume Measurement
To calculate the volume of a cubic space:
- Press the Area/Volume/Pythagorean button until the volume icon appears.
- Measure the length, width, and height sequentially by pressing MEAS after each measurement.
- The device will automatically calculate and display the volume.
4.4 Pythagorean Mode
This mode uses the Pythagorean theorem to calculate indirect measurements, such as height or distance, when direct measurement is not possible.
- Press the Area/Volume/Pythagorean button until the desired Pythagorean mode icon appears (e.g., for single or double Pythagorean calculations).
- Follow the on-screen prompts to measure the required sides (hypotenuse, base) by pressing MEAS for each.
- The device will calculate and display the unknown side.
5. Maintenance and Care
Proper maintenance ensures the longevity and accuracy of your MAKINGTEC B-40 Laser Measure.
5.1 Cleaning
- Wipe the device with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
