Carefully unpack all components and ensure the following items are included:

  • Phono Preamp (Douk Audio T4 PRO unit)
  • Power Adapter
  • Vacuum Tubes (GE5654)
  • Quick Start Guide

2.2. Tube Installation

The T4 PRO comes with two JAN5654 vacuum tubes. Gently insert each tube into its designated socket on the top of the unit, ensuring the pins align correctly. Apply gentle, even pressure until the tubes are fully seated. Avoid forcing them to prevent damage.

2.3. Connecting Your T4 PRO

Follow these steps to connect your T4 PRO to your audio system:

  1. MM Phono Input: Connect your MM (Moving Magnet) turntable's RCA output cables to the "PHONO IN" RCA jacks on the rear panel of the T4 PRO. Ensure to connect the left (white) and right (red) channels correctly. Connect the turntable's ground wire to the GND terminal on the T4 PRO.
  2. 3.5mm AUX Input: For other audio sources (e.g., phone, tablet, PC, MP3 player), connect a 3.5mm audio cable from your device's output to the "AUX" input jack on the front panel. Note: The 3.5mm AUX input has priority over the MM Phono input. If both are connected, the AUX input signal will be used.
  3. Line Output: Connect the "LINE OUT" RCA jacks on the rear panel of the T4 PRO to an available line-level input (e.g., AUX, CD, Tuner) on your stereo amplifier, active speakers, or audio receiver.
  4. Headphone Output: Connect your headphones (32-300 ohm) to the 3.5mm headphone output jack on the front panel.
  5. Power Connection: Connect the provided 12V DC power adapter to the "DC 12V" input on the rear panel, then plug the adapter into a wall outlet.

3. Operating Instructions

3.1. Power On/Off and Volume Control

The large red knob on the front panel serves as both the power switch and volume control. Rotate the knob clockwise to turn the unit on and increase the volume. Rotate counter-clockwise to decrease the volume and turn the unit off.

3.2. Input Priority

The T4 PRO automatically prioritizes the 3.5mm AUX input. If an audio source is connected to the AUX input, the unit will process that signal. If no device is connected to the AUX input, the unit will automatically switch to the MM Phono input.

3.3. Headphone Usage

Once your headphones are connected to the 3.5mm headphone output, the audio will be routed to your headphones. Adjust the volume using the main volume knob.

3.4. Tube Rolling (Sound Customization)

The T4 PRO features a pluggable tube socket, allowing users to experiment with different compatible vacuum tubes (e.g., 6K4/6J1/6J4/6AK5/6* series) to alter the sound signature to their preference. Ensure the unit is powered off and unplugged before attempting to replace tubes. Handle tubes carefully as they can be fragile.

4. Maintenance

4.1. Cleaning

To maintain the appearance and performance of your T4 PRO, regularly wipe the exterior with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid using liquid cleaners or abrasive materials, as they may damage the finish. Ensure the unit is powered off and unplugged before cleaning.

4.2. Tube Care

Vacuum tubes have a finite lifespan. While the included GE5654 tubes are durable, their performance may degrade over time. If you notice a change in sound quality or if a tube stops glowing, it may be time for replacement. Always ensure the unit is cool and unplugged before handling tubes.

4.3. Storage

If storing the T4 PRO for an extended period, disconnect all cables, including the power adapter. Store the unit in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. It is advisable to keep the original packaging for safe storage and transport.

5. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your T4 PRO, please refer to the following common problems and solutions:

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
No Sound OutputIncorrect connections; Volume too low; AUX input prioritized; Faulty cables.Check all RCA and 3.5mm connections. Ensure volume is turned up. Disconnect AUX cable if using Phono input. Test with different cables.

Try plugging the T4 PRO and connected devices into the same power strip. Move unit away from other electronic devices. Re-seat tubes.
Distorted SoundVolume too high; Faulty tubes; Incorrect cartridge type (MM vs MC).Reduce volume. Check if tubes are glowing properly; consider replacing them if old. Ensure your turntable has an MM cartridge, as the T4 PRO is designed for MM.
