4. Setup

4.1 Attaching the Docking Station

The Kreg Docking Station material support wings attach to the main jig unit. Align the tabs on the wings with the slots on the jig and slide them into place until they click securely. These wings provide additional support for larger workpieces and include a repeatable stop for consistent positioning.

4.2 Securing the Jig

For optimal stability, secure the Pocket-Hole Jig 720PRO to your workbench using the included Pocket-Hole Jig Clamp. Position the clamp to firmly hold the jig in place, preventing movement during drilling operations.

4.3 Setting Drill Bit Depth

The Easy-Set Drill Bit has engraved markings for common material thicknesses (1/2", 3/4", 1 1/2").

  1. Identify the thickness of your workpiece.
  2. Slide the stop collar onto the drill bit and align it with the corresponding thickness marking.
  3. Tighten the stop collar securely using the hex wrench.
  4. Insert the drill bit into your drill chuck and tighten it firmly.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1 Drilling Pocket Holes

  1. Place your workpiece into the jig, ensuring it rests firmly against the GripMaxx™ anti-slip surface.
  2. Engage the Automaxx® clamp handle. The clamp will automatically adjust to the material thickness and secure the workpiece.
  3. Insert the Easy-Set Drill Bit into the drill guide.
  4. With your drill set to a moderate speed, begin drilling. Apply steady, even pressure until the stop collar contacts the drill guide, indicating the correct depth has been reached.
  5. Retract the drill bit from the workpiece.
  6. Release the Automaxx® clamp handle and remove the workpiece.

5.2 Joining Workpieces

After drilling pocket holes, use Kreg Pocket-Hole Screws to join your workpieces.

  1. Align the workpieces to be joined.
  2. Use a Kreg clamp (such as the included 3-inch Kreg Clamp) to hold the workpieces securely together, ensuring the joint is flush.
  3. Insert the appropriate Kreg Pocket-Hole Screw into the pocket hole. Refer to Kreg's screw selection guide for the correct screw type and length based on material type and thickness.
  4. Drive the screw using the square-drive bit until it is flush with the bottom of the pocket hole. Do not overtighten.

6. Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and performance of your Kreg Pocket-Hole Jig 720PRO.

  • Cleaning: After each use, clear wood chips and dust from the drill guides and clamping mechanism using a brush or compressed air.
  • Lubrication: Periodically apply a small amount of dry lubricant (e.g., silicone spray) to the clamping mechanism and drill guide surfaces to ensure smooth operation. Avoid oil-based lubricants as they can attract dust.
  • Drill Bit Sharpening/Replacement: A sharp drill bit is crucial for clean pocket holes. Replace or sharpen the Easy-Set Drill Bit when it becomes dull or shows signs of wear.
  • Storage: Store the jig and its accessories in a clean, dry environment. The onboard accessory storage helps keep components organized.
