5. Setup and Installation
Professional installation by a certified plumber and electrician is strongly recommended to ensure safety and compliance with all local codes.
5.1 Mounting
- Select a suitable vertical wall location that can support the weight of the water heater when full (approx. 19 kg empty + 43 kg water = 62 kg).
- Ensure adequate clearance around the unit for maintenance and air circulation.
- Use the provided wall anchors to securely mount the water heater.
5.2 Plumbing Connections
- Connect the cold water inlet (blue connection) to your main cold water supply.
- Install the 3-in-1 safety group on the cold water inlet line. This group includes a drain valve, check valve, and pressure relief valve. Ensure it is installed correctly to prevent backflow and overpressure.
- Connect the hot water outlet (red connection) to your hot water distribution system.
- Once connections are made, slowly open the cold water supply valve to fill the tank. Open a hot water tap in your home to allow air to escape until water flows steadily.
- Check all connections for leaks.
5.3 Electrical Connection
- Ensure the power supply is off at the main breaker before connecting the appliance.
- Connect the water heater's power cable to a dedicated, properly grounded electrical outlet.
- The electrical circuit should be protected by an appropriate circuit breaker (10 Amp recommended).
6. Operating Instructions
6.1 Power On/Off
After successful installation and filling the tank with water, switch on the electrical supply. Press the 'On/Off' button on the control panel to activate the water heater.
6.2 Temperature Control
Use the 'Temperature control' up and down arrows on the control panel to set your desired water temperature. The current temperature will be displayed on the digital screen. The maximum temperature setting is 65 degrees Celsius.
6.3 Heating Modes
The water heater offers several heating modes, accessible via the 'Heating mode' button:
- Turbo: Provides rapid heating for quick hot water availability.
- Optimal: Balances heating speed and energy efficiency.
- Economy: Prioritizes energy saving by heating water to a lower, but still comfortable, temperature.
- Smart: Activates the intelligent learning function.
7. Smart Mode Functionality
The 'SMART' mode is designed to optimize energy consumption based on your hot water usage patterns. When activated, the water heater monitors your hot water consumption over a 7-day cycle. It then anticipates future demand, heating water only when needed. During periods of low demand, the water is maintained at a minimum temperature to save energy while ensuring comfort.
8. Maintenance
Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and efficient operation of your water heater.
- Anode Inspection: The BIO-glasslined tanks are equipped with two anodes for enhanced corrosion protection. These anodes should be inspected and replaced by a qualified technician periodically, typically every 1-2 years, depending on water quality.
- Pressure Relief Valve: Manually operate the pressure relief valve on the safety group at least once a year to ensure it is not blocked. Follow the manufacturer's instructions for the safety group.
- Draining the Tank: If the water heater will be out of use for an extended period or if there is a risk of freezing, drain the tank completely. Refer to the safety group instructions for draining procedures.
- Cleaning: Clean the exterior of the water heater with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
9. Troubleshooting
The Thermex ID 50 V Shadow Smart features self-diagnosis capabilities. If an error occurs, a code may be displayed on the control panel. Refer to the specific error code table in the full manual (if provided separately) or contact customer support.
- No Hot Water: Check power supply, circuit breaker, and ensure the unit is turned on. Verify temperature setting.
- Insufficient Hot Water: Adjust temperature setting, check if 'Economy' mode is active, or if 'SMART' mode is still learning your usage patterns.
- Leaks: Immediately turn off water supply and power. Inspect connections. Contact a qualified plumber if the leak persists.
- Unusual Noises: This could indicate sediment buildup or other internal issues. Contact a qualified technician.
In case of a power outage, the appliance will remember its last settings.
