5. Setup and Installation

Follow these steps for safe and proper installation of your floodlight.

  1. Preparation: Ensure the power supply to the installation area is switched off at the main circuit breaker.
  2. Mounting Location: Choose a suitable wall-mounting location. The recommended installation height for optimal motion sensor performance is between 2.3 and 3 meters. The stable, beveled mounting bracket allows for rotation up to 180 degrees to direct the light as needed.
  3. Mounting: Securely attach the floodlight's mounting bracket to the wall using appropriate screws and wall plugs (not included).
  4. Wiring: The floodlight uses an M16 cable gland for connection. This gland features a practical plug-in function for quick and easy wiring. It is suitable for cable diameters between 4 and 10 mm. Connect the live (L), neutral (N), and earth (PE) wires correctly. Ensure all connections are tight and properly insulated to maintain the IP65 rating.
  5. Adjust Angle: Once mounted, adjust the floodlight's angle using the bracket to illuminate the desired area.
  6. Power On: Restore power to the circuit.

6. Operating Instructions

The goobay 53880 LED Floodlight operates automatically via its PIR motion sensor. You can adjust the sensor's settings to suit your needs.

6.1 Motion Sensor Adjustment

The PIR sensor has three adjustable controls located on its underside (refer to Figure 4.5):

  • RANGE (Detection Range): Adjusts the maximum detection distance from 1 to 10 meters. Turn the knob to increase or decrease the range.
  • TIME (Light Duration): Sets how long the light remains on after motion is detected, from 5 to 600 seconds (10 minutes). Turn the knob to adjust the duration.
  • LUX (Light Sensitivity): Determines the ambient light level at which the sensor becomes active. Settings range from 5 lx (darkness) to 2000 lx (daylight). Turn the knob to select the desired sensitivity. For example, setting it to a low LUX value means the light will only activate in near darkness.

6.2 Motion Sensor ON/OFF Switch

The floodlight includes an ON/OFF switch for the motion sensor function. This allows you to disable the motion sensor and use the floodlight as a normal, continuously-on outdoor light if desired. When the switch is in the 'OFF' position, the motion sensor is bypassed, and the light will remain on as long as power is supplied.

Note: This floodlight is not dimmable.

7. Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and optimal performance of your floodlight.

  • Cleaning: Clean the floodlight's surface and the sensor lens periodically with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents, as these can damage the finish or the sensor. Ensure the power is off before cleaning.
  • Inspection: Periodically check the mounting bracket and wiring for any signs of wear, damage, or loose connections. Address any issues promptly.
  • Light Source: The LED light source is integrated and not user-replaceable. If the LEDs fail, the entire unit must be replaced.

8. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your floodlight, refer to the following troubleshooting guide:

ProblemPossible CauseSolution

  • Faulty wiring.
  • Check circuit breaker and power connections.
  • Adjust LUX setting to a lower value (towards 'moon' icon).
  • Ensure motion sensor switch is ON.
  • Consult a qualified electrician to check wiring.
Light stays on continuously.
  • Motion sensor switch is OFF.
  • Constant motion in detection area.
  • Sensor malfunction.
  • Ensure motion sensor switch is ON.
  • Adjust RANGE setting to reduce detection area or reposition the floodlight.
  • If problem persists, contact support.
Light flickers or blinks.
  • Unstable power supply.
  • Internal component failure.
  • Check power supply stability.
  • If problem persists, the unit may be faulty and require replacement.
Motion sensor is unreliable or too sensitive.
  • Incorrect RANGE or LUX settings.
  • Environmental factors (e.g., moving branches, animals, heat sources).
  • Adjust RANGE and LUX settings.
  • Reposition the floodlight to avoid unwanted triggers.
