Sparkleiot WS2812 Addressable LED Ring User Manual

Model: Sparkleiot WS2812

Introduction

This manual provides essential information for the proper setup, operation, and maintenance of your Sparkleiot WS2812 Addressable LED Ring. This product features 35 individually addressable WS2812B 5050 RGB LEDs with a built-in driver, designed for various lighting applications requiring dynamic and customizable illumination.

Safety Information

  • Ensure the power supply is DC5V. Do not attempt to use DC12V or DC24V power supplies, as this will damage the LED ring.
  • This product is designed for indoor use only. Avoid exposure to moisture or outdoor elements.
  • Handle the LED ring with care to prevent damage to the LEDs or wiring.
  • Disconnect power before making any connections or disconnections.
  • Keep out of reach of children.

Product Overview

The Sparkleiot WS2812 LED Ring is a circular array of 35 individually addressable RGB LEDs. It comes with a pre-attached SM2.54-3P connector wire for easy integration into your projects.

Setup Instructions

Follow these steps to set up your LED ring:

  1. Identify Components: Ensure you have the LED ring and a compatible 5V power supply and controller (e.g., Arduino, ESP8266, Nodemcu, SP103E, SP105E, K1000C, T1000S).
  2. Connect Power: Connect the 5V power supply to the appropriate pins on the LED ring's SM2.54-3P connector. The red wire is typically for +5V, and the black wire for GND.
  3. Connect Data: Connect the data input (DI) pin of the LED ring (green wire) to a digital output pin on your microcontroller (e.g., Arduino Pin 6).
  4. Ground Connection: Ensure the ground (GND) of the LED ring is connected to the ground of your microcontroller and power supply.
  5. Programming: Upload your desired code to the microcontroller to control the individual LEDs. Libraries like Adafruit NeoPixel are commonly used for WS2812B LEDs.

Figure 4: A wiring diagram illustrating how to connect the LED ring to an Arduino board. Note the connections for Data Input (DI), 5V power, and Ground (GND). It explicitly states to only support DC5V and not to use DC12V or DC24V power supply.

Important: Only use a DC5V power supply. Using higher voltages (DC12V or DC24V) will permanently damage the LED ring.

Operating Instructions

Once properly wired and programmed, the LED ring will display lighting patterns according to the code uploaded to your microcontroller. The individual addressability of each LED allows for complex and dynamic lighting effects.

  • Dynamic Color Display: Utilize programming to create various color sequences and animations.
  • Brightness Control: Adjust the brightness of the LEDs through your code, leveraging the 256-level brightness capability.
  • Daisy Chaining: Multiple LED rings can be connected in series using their SM2.54-3P connectors, allowing for larger and more intricate lighting setups without the need for soldering between rings.

Maintenance

The Sparkleiot WS2812 LED Ring requires minimal maintenance:

  • Keep the LED ring clean and free from dust. Use a soft, dry cloth for cleaning.
  • Avoid bending or twisting the LED ring excessively, as this may damage the internal circuitry or LEDs.
  • Store in a dry environment away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.

Troubleshooting

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
LEDs do not light up.Incorrect power supply voltage, loose connections, faulty wiring, incorrect code.Verify power supply is DC5V. Check all wire connections. Ensure your code is correctly uploaded and configured for WS2812B LEDs.
Only some LEDs light up or flicker.Insufficient power, data signal issues, damaged LED.Ensure your power supply can provide enough current for all LEDs. Check data line connection. If a single LED is faulty, it may need replacement or bypassing.
Colors are incorrect.Incorrect color order in code, data line interference.Adjust the color order in your programming (e.g., GRB vs. RGB). Ensure data line is not too long or exposed to significant electrical noise.
