Setup

1. Battery Installation and Charging

Insert the provided Li-ion battery into the battery compartment located on the side of the flash unit. Ensure it clicks into place securely. To charge the battery, remove it from the flash and place it into the dedicated USB battery charger. Connect the charger to a USB power source using the provided USB cable.

2. Mounting on Camera

Slide the flash unit onto your camera's hot shoe. Secure it in place using the quick-release lock lever. Ensure the flash is firmly attached before operation.

3. Initial Power-On

Press the power button to turn on the flash. The LCD screen will illuminate, defaulting to TTL mode. The green indicator light confirms the flash is ready.

Operating Modes and Features

The V860III-S offers various modes and customizable functions to suit different shooting scenarios.

1. Mode Selection (TTL/M/Multi)

Press the MODE button to cycle through TTL (Through-The-Lens), Manual (M), and Multi (Stroboscopic) flash modes. The quick switch on the side allows for rapid toggling between TTL and Manual modes.

2. Modeling Light

Press the MODEL button to activate the modeling light. Use the dial to adjust its brightness across 10 levels for pre-visualization of lighting effects.

3. High-Speed Sync (HSS) and Rear-Curtain Sync

Press the SYNC button to enable High-Speed Sync (HSS) or Rear-Curtain Sync modes, allowing for creative control over motion and ambient light.

4. Exposure Compensation (FEC)

In TTL mode, press the +/- button and turn the dial to adjust the flash exposure compensation value.

5. Zoomable Flash Head

The flash head can be zoomed from 20mm to 200mm automatically or manually. Press the ZOOM button and turn the dial to adjust the focal distance of the light head.

6. Flexible Shooting Angle

The flash head offers a swivel angle from 0° to 330° horizontally and from -7° to 120° vertically, enabling direct flash, bounce flash, and other techniques.

7. Built-in Godox 2.4G Wireless X System

The V860III-S features a built-in 2.4G wireless X system for seamless off-camera flash control. It is compatible with Godox X system triggers like X1, X2, and others.

8. S1/S2 Flash Mode

In Manual mode, press the S1/S2 button to select S1 or S2 optical slave flash modes.

9. Multi Flash Mode (Stroboscopic)

In Multi mode, press the Times button and turn the dial to adjust the number of flashes. Press the Hz button and turn the dial to adjust the flash frequency.

10. TCM Quick Button

A specially designed TCM Quick Button on the side allows for quickly switching between TTL and Manual modes during shooting, retaining the flash output from TTL when switching to Manual.

Maintenance

Proper maintenance ensures the longevity and optimal performance of your Godox V860III-S flash.

• Clean the flash unit regularly with a soft, dry cloth.
• Avoid exposing the flash to extreme temperatures or humidity.
• Store the flash in its protective case when not in use.
• Ensure the battery is fully charged before extended storage to maintain battery health.

Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your flash, refer to the following common solutions:

• Flash not firing: Check battery level, ensure flash is securely mounted, and verify camera settings.
• Inconsistent exposure: Adjust exposure compensation, check flash mode (TTL/M), and ensure proper wireless channel/ID settings.
• Overheating: Allow the flash to cool down if used continuously at high power.
• Reset to default: Long-press the second and third buttons simultaneously until "RESET" appears on the display.
