4. Setup and Installation
4.1. What's in the Box
Your package should contain:
- Zooz ZSE41 800LR Open|Close XS Sensor
- Magnet unit
- CR2032 battery
- Mounting hardware (screws and adhesive tape)
- User Manual
4.2. Battery Installation
- Carefully open the sensor casing.
- Insert the included CR2032 battery into the battery compartment, ensuring correct polarity.
- Close the sensor casing securely.
4.3. Mounting
The sensor and magnet should be mounted on the moving part (door/window) and the frame, respectively, or vice-versa. Ensure the gray lines on both units are aligned and the gap between them is no more than 0.25 inches (though it can reliably work up to 0.75 inches). Use the provided adhesive tape or screws for secure installation.
4.4. Pairing with a Z-Wave Hub
To integrate the sensor into your smart home system, you must pair it with a compatible Z-Wave hub. The sensor supports SmartStart for easy inclusion.
- Ensure your Z-Wave hub is in inclusion/pairing mode.
- Pull the battery tab from the sensor to activate it and initiate pairing mode.
- Follow your hub's instructions to complete the pairing process. You may need to enter the Device Specific Key (DSK) found on the product packaging or the sensor itself for S2 security.
4.5. Compatibility
This device is designed for open Z-Wave systems. Compatible hubs include:
- Z-Box Hub
- HomeSeer
- Hubitat
- Vera
- Ezlo hubs
- Home Assistant (Z-Wave JS)
- SmartThings (limited access to advanced settings)
- Ring Alarm (limited access to advanced settings)
Important Note:
- This device will NOT work with Wink or Z-Wave alarm panels such as ADT, Vivint, Alarm.com, or Qolsys.
5. Operating Instructions
Once successfully paired with your Z-Wave hub, the sensor will report its status (open or closed) to your smart home system. You can use this information to:
- Receive notifications on your hub's app or via text when a door or window is opened.
- Trigger automated actions, such as turning on lights when a door opens or adjusting thermostat settings if a window is left open.
- Enhance your DIY security monitoring for various entry points or sensitive areas like cabinets and safety gates.
6. Maintenance
6.1. Battery Replacement
The sensor uses one CR2032 lithium battery. When the battery level is low, your Z-Wave hub should report this status. To replace the battery, carefully open the sensor casing, remove the old battery, and insert a new CR2032 battery with the correct polarity. Dispose of old batteries responsibly.
6.2. Outdoor Use
While the sensor has a protective coating, for outdoor installation, a dedicated waterproof case (sold separately) is required to protect it from prolonged exposure to elements.
7. Troubleshooting
- Sensor Not Pairing: Ensure your Z-Wave hub is in inclusion mode and the sensor's battery tab has been pulled. Verify hub compatibility.
- Poor Range/Connectivity: Check for physical obstructions between the sensor and the hub. If your hub supports Z-Wave Long Range, ensure it is enabled. Consider adding Z-Wave repeaters to extend network coverage.
- Inaccurate Open/Close Readings: Verify that the sensor and magnet are properly aligned and the gap between them does not exceed 0.25 inches (or 0.75 inches reliably).
- Short Battery Life: Battery life can be affected by frequent reporting (e.g., a frequently opened door) and extreme temperatures. Ensure the battery is fresh and correctly installed.
- Incompatibility: If your hub is not listed under compatible systems, the sensor may not function correctly or at all. Contact Zooz support for clarification.
8. Warranty and Support
The Zooz ZSE41 800LR sensor is covered by a 5-year extended warranty once registered. Lifetime technical support is available 7 days a week. For assistance, please refer to the contact information provided with your product or on the Zooz website.
