1. Introduction and Overview
The Zooz 800 Series Z-Wave Long Range Water Leak XS Sensor (Model ZSE42 800LR) is a compact device designed to detect water leaks and help prevent potential water damage in your home or property. When water is detected, the sensor sends an alert to your compatible Z-Wave hub, allowing you to take immediate action.
This sensor features the new 800 series Z-Wave chip for extended range and improved battery life, and supports Z-Wave Long Range technology for ultra-stable communication with compatible hubs. Its extra-small design and IP66 rating make it ideal for discreet placement under appliances or in other areas prone to leaks.

4.2. Z-Wave Inclusion (Pairing with your Hub)
This sensor requires a compatible Z-Wave hub (sold separately) to function. It is supported by open Z-Wave systems only. The sensor supports SmartStart for easy inclusion.
Compatible Z-Wave Hubs include:
- Z-Box Hub (recommended for best performance)
- SmartThings
- Hubitat
- Home Assistant
- HomeSeer
- Ezlo hubs
Incompatible Systems: This device will NOT work with Wink or Z-Wave alarm panels such as Ring Alarm, ADT, Vivint, Alarm.com, Qolsys, or 2GIG.
Inclusion Steps (General):
- Put your Z-Wave hub into inclusion (pairing) mode. Refer to your hub's specific instructions for this step.
- For SmartStart inclusion, scan the QR code on the back of the sensor using your hub's app (if supported).
- Alternatively, if your hub does not support SmartStart, follow its manual inclusion process. This typically involves pressing a button on the sensor (e.g., the Z-Wave button on the back) a certain number of times.
- Once successfully included, the sensor will appear in your hub's device list.

5. Operating Instructions
Once successfully paired with your Z-Wave hub, the Zooz Water Leak XS Sensor will continuously monitor for the presence of water. When water is detected by the sensor's contacts, it will immediately send a signal to your Z-Wave hub.
- Alerts: Your Z-Wave hub will receive the leak detection signal and can be configured to trigger various actions, such as sending notifications to your phone, sounding an alarm, or activating other smart devices.
- Automation: For advanced flood prevention, you can create automations within your Z-Wave hub to pair the sensor with devices like the Zooz Titan Water Valve Actuator (sold separately). This allows for automatic water shut-off when a leak is detected.
- Placement: Place the sensor in areas where water leaks are likely to occur, such as under sinks, near water heaters, washing machines, dishwashers, or in basements. Ensure the sensor's contacts are positioned to come into contact with water.
6. Maintenance
- Battery Replacement: The sensor uses a CR2450 lithium battery. When the battery level is low, your Z-Wave hub should report a low battery status. Replace the battery promptly to ensure continuous operation. Refer to Section 4.1 for battery installation steps.
- Cleaning: Wipe the sensor with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or immerse the device in water.
- Regular Testing: Periodically test the sensor by placing its contacts in a small amount of water to ensure it is functioning correctly and sending alerts to your hub.
7. Troubleshooting
If you experience issues with your Zooz Water Leak XS Sensor, try the following troubleshooting steps:
- Sensor not pairing with hub:
- Ensure your hub is in inclusion mode.
- Make sure the sensor is within range of your Z-Wave hub or a Z-Wave repeater.
- Check the battery level. Replace if low.
- Try excluding the sensor first (if it was previously paired) and then re-including it.
- Verify your hub is compatible (refer to Section 4.2).
- No alerts when water is detected:
- Confirm the sensor is successfully paired and showing as "online" in your hub's interface.
- Check your hub's automation rules or notification settings to ensure they are correctly configured for the leak sensor.
- Ensure the sensor contacts are clean and making proper contact with water.
- Short battery life:
- Ensure you are using a fresh, high-quality CR2450 lithium battery.
- Frequent water detection events can drain the battery faster.
- Ensure good Z-Wave signal strength; a weak signal can cause the sensor to work harder, consuming more power.
