2. Setup
2.1 Unpacking and Initial Inspection
- Carefully remove all packaging materials from the dehydrator and its accessories.
- Inspect the unit for any signs of damage. If any damage is observed, do not operate the appliance and contact customer support.
- Ensure all components are present: the main dehydrator unit, four mesh drying trays, and one drip tray.
2.2 Placement
- Place the dehydrator on a stable, flat, heat-resistant surface.
- Ensure adequate ventilation around the unit. Do not place it directly against a wall or in an enclosed cabinet.
- Keep the appliance away from water sources and direct sunlight.
2.3 Initial Cleaning
Before first use, clean all removable parts (mesh trays and drip tray) with warm, soapy water. Wipe the interior and exterior of the main unit with a damp cloth. Ensure all parts are completely dry before assembly and use.

3. Operating Instructions
3.1 Preparing Food for Dehydration
- Wash and thoroughly dry all fruits, vegetables, or herbs.
- Slice food items uniformly to ensure even drying. Thinner slices will dry faster.
- For fruits, consider pre-treating with lemon juice or a commercial anti-darkening solution to prevent discoloration.
- For meats, ensure they are lean and sliced thinly. Marinate if desired.
3.2 Loading the Trays
- Place the prepared food items in a single layer on the mesh drying trays. Do not overlap items to allow for proper airflow.
- Insert the loaded trays into the dehydrator. The drip tray should be at the bottom to catch any liquids.
- Close the dehydrator door securely.

3.3 Setting Temperature and Time
The NESCO FD-41B features a digital LED display and two control dials for temperature and time settings.
- Power On: Press the power button (usually indicated by a circle with a vertical line) to turn on the unit.
- Temperature Setting: Use the left dial to adjust the temperature between 95°F and 175°F. The display will show the current temperature.
- Time Setting: Use the right dial to set the desired drying time, typically from 1 to 24 hours. The display will show the remaining time.
- Start/Stop: Once settings are confirmed, the unit will begin operation. To pause or stop, press the power button.

4. Maintenance and Cleaning
Regular cleaning ensures optimal performance and longevity of your dehydrator.
