1. Introduction

The Universal Audio Volt 276 is a 2-in/2-out USB audio interface designed for musicians, producers, livestreamers, and content creators. It features a built-in Vintage Mic Preamp mode and a classic analog compressor, enabling high-quality audio capture with up to 24-bit / 192 kHz resolution. This manual provides essential information for setting up, operating, and maintaining your Volt 276 interface.

3. Setup

3.1 Unboxing and Initial Inspection

Carefully remove the Volt 276 from its packaging. Inspect the unit for any signs of damage. Ensure all included accessories, such as the USB-C to USB-A cable and Quick Start Guide, are present.

3.2 Connecting to Your Computer

The Volt 276 is bus-powered via USB-C. Connect the provided USB-C to USB-A cable from the USB-C port on the rear of the Volt 276 to an available USB port on your computer. For optimal performance, ensure your computer's operating system (Windows or macOS) is up to date.

3.3 Powering the Device

The Volt 276 can be powered directly from your computer via the USB-C connection. If using with a mobile device (iPad/iPhone) or if additional power is required, connect an optional 5V DC power adapter (not included) to the 5V DC input on the rear panel. Use the Power ON/OFF switch to activate or deactivate the unit.

3.4 Driver Installation

For Windows users, it is recommended to download and install the latest drivers from the Universal Audio website. macOS and iOS devices typically do not require additional driver installation.

3.5 Software Bundle

The Volt 276 includes a professional suite of audio and music software. Register your device on the Universal Audio website to access downloads for LUNA Recording System, Ableton Live Lite, UAD plug-ins, and other bundled software.

4. Operating the Volt 276

4.1 Front Panel Controls

  1. Input 1 & 2 (Combo Jacks): Connect microphones via XLR or line-level/instrument sources via 1/4-inch TRS/TS cables.
  2. +48V Phantom Power: Activates 48V phantom power for condenser microphones. Press the button above the input jack.
  3. INST (Instrument) Button: Engages high-impedance input for direct connection of guitars, basses, and other instruments.
  4. Gain Knobs: Adjust the input level for each channel. Monitor the LED meters to ensure levels are healthy and not clipping (avoid red).
  5. Vintage Preamp Mode: Activates the 610 tube preamp emulation for a warm, rich sound.
  6. 76 Compressor: Engages the analog compressor. Select presets for VOC (vocals), GTR (guitars), or FAST (fast transients).
  7. Monitor Knob: Controls the overall output volume to your studio monitors.
  8. Direct Button: Enables direct monitoring of your input signals with zero latency.
  9. Headphones Output: Connect your headphones here. The dedicated volume knob controls the headphone level independently from the main monitor output.

4.2 Rear Panel Connections

  1. Power Switch: Turns the unit ON/OFF.
  2. 5V DC Input: For optional external power supply.
  3. USB-C Port: Connects to your computer for data and bus power.
  4. MIDI IN/OUT: Standard 5-pin DIN connectors for MIDI devices.
  5. Monitor Outputs (L/R): Connect your studio monitors using 1/4-inch TRS cables.

The Volt 276 integrates with the Universal Audio Console application, which provides a virtual mixer for managing inputs, outputs, monitoring, and UAD plug-ins in real-time. This allows for low-latency monitoring with effects.
