2. Product Features

  • IP67 Waterproof Rating: The RT45P can withstand submersion in up to 1 meter of water for 30 minutes, making it suitable for use in wet conditions and water-based activities.
  • 22 FRS Channels: Offers 22 channels for communication, compatible with other FRS radios regardless of brand when using the same channel and CTCSS/DCS codes.
  • Multiple Power Supply Modes: Equipped with 1000mAh Ni-MH rechargeable batteries and supports charging via a Type-C USB cable. Also compatible with ordinary AA batteries (not included).

4. Product Overview

Familiarize yourself with the various parts and controls of your RT45P radio:

  • Antenna: For transmitting and receiving signals.
  • LED Light: Functions as a flashlight and indicator.
  • USB Jack: For charging the radio.
  • PTT Button (Push-to-Talk): Press and hold to transmit, release to receive.
  • MENU/Power Button: Short press to access menu, long press to power on/off.
  • Volume/Channel Up/Down Buttons: Adjust volume or navigate channels/menu options.
  • Call Button: Sends a call tone to other radios.
  • MON (Monitor) Button: Temporarily disables squelch to listen to weak signals.

5. Setup

5.1 Battery Installation

The Retevis RT45P uses 1000mAh Ni-MH rechargeable AA batteries. It is also compatible with standard AA alkaline batteries (not included).

  1. Ensure the radio is powered off.
  2. Locate the battery compartment cover on the back of the radio.
  3. Unscrew the two screws securing the battery cover and carefully remove it.
  4. Insert the 3 AA Ni-MH rechargeable batteries into the compartment, observing the correct polarity (+/-) as indicated.
  5. Replace the battery cover and tighten the screws to ensure the IP67 waterproof seal is maintained.

5.2 Charging

To charge the installed Ni-MH rechargeable batteries:

  1. Connect the USB-C end of the charging cable to the USB jack on the radio.
  2. Connect the other end of the USB charging cable to a compatible USB power source (e.g., wall adapter, computer USB port, power bank).
  3. The battery indicator on the LCD screen will show charging status.
  4. Once fully charged, disconnect the charging cable.

6. Operating Instructions

6.1 Power On/Off

To power on the radio, long press the MENU/Power button until the LCD screen illuminates. To power off, long press the same button until the screen turns off.

6.2 Channel Selection

The RT45P has 22 FRS channels. To change channels:

  1. Short press the MENU button once. The channel number on the display will flash.
  2. Use the Up or Down buttons to select the desired channel.
  3. Press the MENU button again to confirm your selection, or wait a few seconds for the setting to save automatically.

6.3 CTCSS/DCS Codes

CTCSS (Continuous Tone-Coded Squelch System) and DCS (Digitally Coded Squelch) codes help filter out unwanted conversations on a channel. The RT45P supports 121 CTCSS/DCS codes.

  1. Short press the MENU button twice to enter the CTCSS/DCS setting. The code number will flash.
  2. Use the Up or Down buttons to select the desired code.
  3. Press the MENU button again to confirm, or wait for automatic saving.

6.4 VOX Function (Voice Operated Exchange)

VOX allows hands-free transmission. When enabled, the radio transmits automatically when it detects your voice.

  1. Short press the MENU button multiple times until the VOX icon flashes.
  2. Use the Up or Down buttons to select a VOX sensitivity level (1-5, with 5 being most sensitive) or turn it off (OF).
  3. Press the MENU button to confirm.

6.5 NOAA Weather Alert

The RT45P can receive NOAA weather alerts on 11 dedicated channels.

  1. Short press the MENU button until the NOAA weather alert setting appears.
  2. Use the Up or Down buttons to select a NOAA channel or enable/disable the alert function.
  3. Press the MENU button to confirm.

6.6 SOS Emergency Alarm

In an emergency, the SOS alarm can be activated:

  • Long press the Torch button (often integrated with the SOS function) to activate the SOS alarm. The radio will emit a loud siren and transmit a distress signal.
  • Release the button to stop the alarm.

6.7 Dual Watch Function

The Dual Watch function allows you to monitor two different channels simultaneously. If activity is detected on either channel, the radio will switch to that channel.

  1. Access the Dual Watch setting via the MENU button.
  2. Select the primary and secondary channels you wish to monitor.
  3. Enable the Dual Watch function.

6.8 Keyboard Lock

To prevent accidental button presses and setting changes:

  1. Long press the Lock button (or a combination as indicated on the radio) to activate the keyboard lock. A lock icon will appear on the display.
  2. Repeat the action to unlock the keyboard.

7. Maintenance

  • Cleaning: Clean the radio's exterior with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners.
  • Waterproof Seal: Regularly inspect the battery compartment cover and its rubber seal for any signs of damage or wear. Ensure screws are tightened to maintain the IP67 rating.
  • Battery Care: For optimal battery life, fully charge the Ni-MH batteries before first use and after extended periods of non-use. If using alkaline batteries, remove them if the radio will not be used for a long time to prevent leakage.
  • Storage: Store the radio in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
