Introduction
The Blackmagic Design HyperDeck Studio HD Plus is a professional broadcast deck designed for recording and playback of video. It includes advanced features such as 6G-SDI connectivity, allowing for recording and playback of ProRes up to Ultra HD 30 frames per second. This model also supports HDR (High Dynamic Range) and includes an SDI loop out. Its dual 6G-SDI outputs enable fill and key playback up to 1080p60. For monitoring, it provides an HDMI input and a dedicated 3G-SDI monitoring output with overlays. The unit features an upgraded front panel with improved transport control buttons, a headphone socket, and a built-in speaker. Setup Guide
Follow these steps to set up your HyperDeck Studio HD Plus Recorder:
- Power Connection: Connect the included 6 ft power cord to the broadcast-style XLR connector on the rear of the HyperDeck Studio HD Plus. Plug the other end into a suitable power outlet.

- Video Input: Connect your video source to the HyperDeck using either the 6G-SDI input (BNC) or the HDMI 2.0 Type A input. This model supports ProRes recording up to Ultra HD 30fps via 6G-SDI.
Note: Ensure your source device is compatible with the HyperDeck's supported video standards.
- Video Output (Monitoring): For monitoring, connect a display to the dedicated 3G-SDI monitoring output (BNC) or the HDMI Type A 2.0 output. This output can display overlays.
- Storage: Insert an SD card or connect an external disk via the USB Type-C port for recording. The unit supports recording of SD, HD, and 2K DCI formats.
- Timecode & Reference: If synchronizing with other equipment, connect timecode and reference signals to the respective BNC inputs/outputs.
- Network Connection (Optional): Connect an Ethernet cable for network control or file transfer, if supported by your workflow.
Operating Instructions

Front Panel Controls:
- Transport Buttons: Use the REC (red), PLAY (green), STOP (blue), REW, FFWD, and SKIP buttons for media control.
- LCD Screen: Displays video preview, timecode, recording status, and menu options.
- Input Button: Selects the active video input source.
- Menu Button: Accesses system settings and configuration options.
- Search Knob: Navigates through media and menu options.
- Headphone Socket: For audio monitoring.
- Built-in Speaker: Provides basic audio monitoring.
Recording:
- Ensure a formatted storage medium (SD card or external disk) is inserted/connected.
- Select the desired input source using the INPUT button.
- Press the REC button to begin recording. The REC indicator will illuminate.
- Press the STOP button to end recording.
Playback:
- Use the SEARCH knob to navigate to the desired clip.
- Press the PLAY button to start playback.
- Use REW, FFWD, and SKIP buttons for navigation.
- Press the STOP button to stop playback.
USB Webcam Feature:
The USB Type-C port allows the HyperDeck Studio HD Plus to function as a webcam. Connect the unit to your computer via USB-C, and it will be recognized as a video input device. This feature is compatible with video conferencing software like Zoom, Microsoft Teams, and Skype, as well as live streaming applications such as Open Broadcaster and XSplit Broadcaster.
Maintenance
