Setup and Installation

The Hertz HTX-8-M-CL-W speakers feature a solid 316-Stainless steel clamp mounting system, ideal for round or square profile pipe applications. The Q-OS² (Quick Orientation & Release for Sound & Safety) patent pending technology allows for easy orientation and quick release.

Mounting the Speakers

  1. Select Mounting Location: Choose a sturdy pipe or tower location that can support the weight of the speakers and provide optimal sound dispersion. Ensure there is sufficient clearance for speaker rotation and wiring.
  2. Prepare the Clamp: Loosen the clamp mechanism on the speaker mount. The clamp is designed for various pipe diameters.
  3. Attach to Pipe: Position the clamp around the chosen pipe. Ensure a secure fit.
  4. Tighten Clamp: Securely tighten the clamp using appropriate tools. Do not overtighten, but ensure the speaker is firmly in place and does not wobble.
  5. Adjust Logo Orientation: The "Adjustable logo" feature allows for correct Hertz logo orientation regardless of tower positioning. Rotate the front and rear logos within 64 steps to achieve the desired alignment.

Wiring Connections

These speakers have a 4 Ohm impedance. Ensure your amplifier is compatible and correctly wired to prevent damage.

  • Connect the positive (+) terminal of the speaker to the positive (+) output of your amplifier.
  • Connect the negative (-) terminal of the speaker to the negative (-) output of your amplifier.
  • Ensure all connections are secure and insulated to prevent short circuits.
  • Refer to your amplifier's manual for specific wiring diagrams and recommendations.

Operating Instructions

Once properly installed and wired, your Hertz marine speakers are ready for operation.

  • Power On: Turn on your marine audio system and amplifier.
  • Volume Control: Start with the volume at a low level and gradually increase it to your desired listening level. Avoid excessive volume that may cause distortion or damage to the speakers.
  • Sound Adjustment: Use your amplifier's tone controls (bass, treble, balance, fader) to optimize the sound quality to your preference.
  • Q-OS² Technology: Utilize the Quick Orientation & Release feature to adjust the speaker direction for optimal sound projection or to quickly remove them for safety or storage.

Maintenance

Regular maintenance will ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your marine speakers.

  • Cleaning: Clean the speaker grilles and enclosures with a soft, damp cloth. For stubborn dirt, use a mild soap solution. Avoid abrasive cleaners or solvents.
  • Saltwater Exposure: After exposure to saltwater, rinse the speakers with fresh water to prevent salt buildup and corrosion.
  • Inspection: Periodically inspect all wiring connections and mounting hardware for tightness and signs of wear or corrosion.
  • Storage: If storing the boat for an extended period, consider removing the speakers and storing them in a dry, temperate environment.

Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your speakers, refer to the following common problems and solutions:

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
No SoundLoose or incorrect wiring. Amplifier off or faulty.Check all speaker and amplifier connections. Ensure amplifier is powered on and functioning.
Distorted SoundVolume too high. Amplifier clipping. Incorrect impedance match.Reduce volume. Check amplifier gain settings. Verify amplifier impedance matches speakers (4 Ohms).
Intermittent SoundLoose connections. Corroded terminals.Inspect and secure all wiring. Clean any corroded terminals.
Speakers Not SecureClamp not tightened sufficiently.Re-tighten the clamp mechanism on the mounting pipe.

If the problem persists after trying these solutions, please contact Hertz customer support or a qualified technician.
