1. Introduction and Overview
The Philips UV-C Large Type Air Purifier is designed to effectively sterilize airborne bacteria and viruses in various indoor environments. Utilizing advanced UV-C technology, this device provides a robust solution for improving air hygiene.
It is suitable for large spaces such as offices, retail stores, restaurants, as well as residential areas like living rooms and bedrooms. The purifier works by drawing in indoor air, exposing it to powerful UV-C light internally, and then releasing purified air. This process neutralizes 99% of airborne pathogens, including mold, bacteria, and viruses, within seconds.
Philips UV-C lamps are engineered to operate at a specific wavelength (253.7nm) that does not produce ozone, ensuring safe operation for occupants and the environment. With over 35 years of expertise in UV-C applications, Philips ensures reliable and effective sterilization. The efficacy of Philips UV-C technology has been independently validated by Boston University's National Emerging Infectious Diseases Laboratories (NEIDL).

2. Setup
- Unpack the Device: Carefully remove the air purifier and all accessories from its packaging. Retain packaging for future transport or storage.
- Choose a Location: Place the air purifier on a stable, level surface in the center of the room to ensure optimal air circulation. Ensure there is adequate space around the unit for air intake and exhaust. Avoid placing it directly against walls or furniture.
- Connect to Power: Plug the power cord into a suitable electrical outlet. Ensure the voltage matches the device's requirements.
- Initial Check: Before first use, inspect the unit for any visible damage. Ensure all components are securely in place.
3. Operating Instructions
This air purifier is designed for simple and safe operation. Always ensure no people or animals are present in the room during the sterilization cycle, as direct exposure to UV-C light can be harmful.
- Power On: Once plugged in, the device will enter a locked state. The LED indicators will illuminate sequentially.
- Unlock: Press and hold the power button for 3 seconds or more to unlock the device.
- Set Timer: Use the timer button to select the desired sterilization duration. Recommended times vary by room size and type:
- Living Room (up to 28m²): 45 minutes
- Bedroom (up to 20m²): 30 minutes
- Washroom (up to 13m²): 15 minutes
- Start Sterilization: Press the power button again to initiate the sterilization cycle. An audible voice guide will confirm the start of the cycle.
- Vacate the Room: Immediately exit the room and close the door. The device features a motion sensor that will delay the start of UV-C emission for 30 seconds to ensure the area is clear. If movement is detected during operation, the UV-C light will automatically turn off for safety.
- Cycle Completion: Once the set time has elapsed, the sterilization cycle will end, and the device will return to its locked mode.
- Power Off: After use, unplug the power cord from the electrical outlet.

For an 80m² room, over 98.0% sterilization is achieved in 2 hours. The diagram shows a person and the air purifier in a room, indicating a coverage radius of approximately 3 meters and a height of 2.5 meters.
4. Maintenance
Regular maintenance ensures optimal performance and longevity of your Philips UV-C Air Purifier.
- Exterior Cleaning: Wipe the exterior of the unit with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
- UV-C Lamp Replacement: The UV-C lamp has an approximate lifespan of 9000 hours. After this period, a control mechanism will prevent the lamp from lighting up, indicating it needs replacement. Replacement of the UV-C lamp should be performed by qualified personnel. The estimated cost for lamp replacement is approximately 45,000 to 50,000 JPY.
- Filter Maintenance: While the primary sterilization is via UV-C, the device may include a HEPA filter for particle retention. Refer to the full user manual for specific instructions on cleaning or replacing filters.
5. Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your air purifier, please refer to the following common troubleshooting steps:
- Device Not Powering On: Ensure the power cord is securely plugged into both the unit and a functional electrical outlet. Check if the outlet is receiving power.
- UV-C Light Not Activating:
- Ensure the device is unlocked by pressing and holding the power button for 3 seconds.
- Verify that no movement is detected by the sensor in the room for 30 seconds after starting the cycle.
- Check if the UV-C lamp has exceeded its 9000-hour lifespan. If so, the lamp needs replacement.
- Reduced Sterilization Performance: Ensure the unit is placed in a central location with unobstructed airflow. Regular maintenance, including lamp replacement, is crucial for maintaining performance.
