Operating Instructions (Brewing Coffee)

Achieve a rich and aromatic coffee with the pour-over method:

  1. Heat Water: Heat fresh water to approximately 90-96°C (195-205°F). A gooseneck kettle is recommended for precise pouring.
  2. Add Coffee Grounds: Place your desired amount of coarse to medium-ground coffee into the permanent filter. A general ratio is 1:15 (e.g., 30g coffee for 450ml water).
  3. Bloom: Slowly pour a small amount of hot water (about twice the weight of the coffee grounds) over the grounds, ensuring they are fully saturated. Let it sit for 30-45 seconds to allow the coffee to 'bloom' and release gases.
  4. Pour: Continue pouring the remaining hot water slowly and evenly in a circular motion, starting from the center and moving outwards. Avoid pouring directly onto the filter walls. Maintain a steady stream.
  5. Brew: Allow the coffee to drip completely into the glass carafe. The brewing process typically takes 3-4 minutes.
  6. Serve: Once all the coffee has dripped, remove the filter and stand. Place the lid on the carafe to retain heat. Serve immediately.

Maintenance and Cleaning

Regular cleaning ensures optimal performance and longevity of your coffee maker.

  • After Each Use:
    • Remove the permanent filter and discard used coffee grounds.
    • Rinse the permanent filter and glass carafe thoroughly with warm water.
    • Wash the filter and carafe with mild dish soap and a soft sponge.
    • Rinse all parts completely to remove soap residue and dry them.
  • Concrete Base and Stand: Wipe the concrete base and stand with a damp cloth. Do not immerse the concrete base in water.
  • Dishwasher Safety: The glass carafe and permanent filter are generally dishwasher safe, but hand washing is recommended to prolong their lifespan. The concrete base and stand are NOT dishwasher safe.

Troubleshooting

Refer to the table below for common issues and their solutions:

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
Coffee brews too slowly.Coffee grounds are too fine; filter is clogged.Use coarser ground coffee. Clean the permanent filter thoroughly.
Coffee tastes weak. Not enough coffee grounds; water temperature too low; pouring too fast.Increase coffee-to-water ratio. Ensure water is at optimal temperature (90-96°C). Pour water more slowly.
Coffee tastes bitter.Water temperature too high; over-extraction; coffee grounds too fine.Reduce water temperature. Use coarser grounds. Reduce brewing time by pouring slightly faster.
Carafe slips on the base.Base or carafe bottom is wet or dirty.Ensure both the concrete base and the bottom of the carafe are clean and dry before placing.
