Setup

1. Battery Installation and Charging

The camera uses a Lithium Ion battery. Ensure the battery is fully charged before first use.

  • Open the battery compartment cover located at the bottom of the camera.
  • Insert the battery with the correct orientation, aligning the contacts.
  • Close the battery compartment cover securely.
  • Connect the camera to a power source using the supplied USB cable for charging. The charging indicator will show the charging status.

2. Memory Card Insertion

The Ricoh GR IIIx supports SD/SDHC/SDXC memory cards. A single slot is available.

  • Locate the memory card slot, typically adjacent to the battery compartment.
  • Insert the memory card with the label facing the correct direction until it clicks into place.
  • To remove, gently push the card until it springs out.

3. Initial Power On and Basic Settings

Press the ON/OFF button to power on the camera. The camera has a quick startup time of approximately 0.8 seconds.

  • Upon first power-on, you may be prompted to set the date, time, and language. Follow the on-screen instructions.

1. Shooting Modes

The Ricoh GR IIIx offers various shooting modes to suit different photographic needs:

  • Program (P): The camera automatically sets aperture and shutter speed for optimal exposure.
  • Aperture Priority (Av): You set the aperture, and the camera selects the appropriate shutter speed.
  • Shutter Priority (Tv): You set the shutter speed, and the camera selects the appropriate aperture.
  • Manual (M): You control both aperture and shutter speed.
  • Bulb Mode: Shutter remains open as long as the shutter button is pressed.
  • Time Mode: Shutter opens with one press and closes with another.
  • DOF Priority (Deep): Prioritizes a closed aperture setting for extended depth of field.

2. Autofocus System

The camera features a hybrid AF system combining contrast-type and phase-detection-type AF for high-speed and high-precision focusing.

  • Face/Eye Detection: The AF system can detect and focus on subjects' faces or eyes.
  • Touch AF: Tap on the LCD screen to set the focus point and trigger the shutter.
  • Snap Focus: A unique GR feature allowing pre-setting a focus distance for quick, zone-focused shots without AF.

3. Image Control and Customization

Utilize the Image Control function to apply creative visual effects and fine-tune image parameters.

  • Choose from 11 basic Image Control modes.
  • Adjust parameters such as saturation, hue, key, contrast, and graininess.
  • Save customized settings as user-defined presets (U1, U2, U3, etc.).

4. Video Recording

The GR IIIx supports Full HD movie recording (1920 x 1080 pixels) at 60 frames per second in H-264 format.

  • Switch to video mode using the mode dial or menu.
  • Press the video record button to start and stop recording.

Maintenance

1. Cleaning the Camera

  • Use a soft, lint-free cloth to clean the camera body.
  • For the lens, use a lens brush or blower to remove dust, followed by a lens cleaning cloth and solution if necessary. Avoid touching the lens surface directly.
  • Keep the LCD screen clean using a microfiber cloth.
