5.2 Descaling
Regular descaling is crucial to maintain machine performance and prevent mineral buildup, especially if you have hard water. It is recommended to descale the machine every 2-3 months or as indicated by the machine's descaling alert (if applicable).
- Use a commercial descaling solution suitable for espresso machines. Follow the instructions on the descaling solution packaging.
- Fill the water tank with the descaling solution and water mixture.
- Run several cycles through the machine without coffee until the water tank is empty.
- Rinse the water tank and fill it with fresh water. Run several cycles with fresh water to flush out any remaining descaling solution.
6. Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Coffee is not hot enough. | Machine not fully preheated; cups are cold. | Allow machine to fully preheat. Preheat cups with hot water before brewing. |
| Difficulty inserting/locking the portafilter. | Coffee grounds on the rim; portafilter not aligned correctly; new machine stiffness. | Clean the rim of the portafilter and brewing head. Ensure correct alignment. With new machines, some stiffness is normal and will ease with use. Apply gentle but firm pressure. |
| Milk frother is clogged or not producing foam. | Milk residue buildup; machine needs descaling. | Perform the "Auto Clean" function for the milk frother. Disassemble and clean milk frother components. If problem persists, descale the machine. |
| No coffee is dispensed. | Water tank empty; coffee too finely ground or over-tamped. | Fill water tank. Use coarser grind or less pressure when tamping. |
