4. Setup

4.1 Battery Installation

The AOFAR HX-800I uses one CR2 battery. To install or replace the battery:

  1. Locate the battery compartment on the device.
  2. Open the battery compartment cover.
  3. Insert the CR2 battery, ensuring the correct polarity (+/-) as indicated inside the compartment.
  4. Close the battery compartment cover securely.

Note: A CR2 battery is included with your purchase.

5. Operating Instructions

The AOFAR HX-800I features a simple two-button operation for ease of use.

5.1 Power On/Off and Basic Measurement

  • To power on the device, press the POWER button.
  • To measure distance in the current mode, aim at your target and press the POWER button again. The measurement will display on the LCD.
  • The device will automatically power off after a period of inactivity to conserve battery.

5.2 Switching Units (Meters/Yards)

To switch between meters (M) and yards (Y):

  • With the device powered on, press and hold the MODE button for approximately 3 seconds. The unit will toggle between M and Y.

5.3 Switching Measurement Modes

The device offers three primary measurement modes: Range, Continuous Scan, and Speed. To cycle through these modes:

  • With the device powered on, short press the MODE button. Each press will cycle to the next mode.

5.3.1 Range Mode

This is the standard mode for measuring the distance to a single stationary target.

  • Select Range Mode using the MODE button.
  • Aim the crosshairs at your desired target.
  • Press the POWER button once. The distance will be displayed.
  • Note: The target must be more than 5 yards away for accurate measurement.

5.3.2 Continuous Scan Mode

This mode allows for continuous measurement of multiple targets or a moving target by scanning across an area.

  • Select Continuous Scan Mode using the MODE button.
  • Press and hold the POWER button.
  • Slowly pan the range finder across different targets. The distance readings will update continuously on the display.

5.3.3 Speed Mode

This mode measures the speed of a moving object.

  • Select Speed Mode using the MODE button.
  • Aim at the moving target.
  • Single-click the POWER button. The speed of the target will be displayed in meters per second (m/s).
