2.2 Physical Installation

The switch can be installed on a desktop or mounted in a standard server rack.

  • Desktop Placement: Place the switch on a flat, stable surface with adequate ventilation. Ensure no objects block the ventilation holes.
  • Rackmount Installation: Attach the provided rackmount brackets to the sides of the switch using the included screws. Secure the switch into a standard 19-inch server rack.

2.3 Connecting the Switch

Follow these steps to connect your STEAMEMO PoE Switch:

  1. Power Connection: Connect the power adapter to the switch's power input and then to a suitable power outlet. The power LED indicator on the switch should illuminate.
  2. Uplink Connection: Connect your router or main network device to one of the Gigabit uplink ports (LAN1 or LAN2) on the switch using a standard Ethernet cable.
  3. PoE Device Connection: Connect your PoE-compatible devices (e.g., IP cameras, Wi-Fi access points, IP phones) to the 16 PoE ports (1-16) on the switch. The switch will automatically detect and power these devices.
  4. Non-PoE Device Connection: Non-PoE devices can also be connected to the PoE ports; the switch will only provide data connectivity.

2.4 Initial Cloud Management Setup

The STEAMEMO PoE Switch is cloud-managed via the SSC App. For initial setup and activation, the switch must be connected to the internet and powered on.

3. Operating the Switch

3.1 Power over Ethernet (PoE) Functionality

The switch automatically identifies and provides power to connected PoE devices, simplifying network deployment by eliminating the need for separate power adapters for each device.

3.2 Cloud Management and Remote Access

Manage your switch and connected devices remotely using the SSC App or a computer. This allows for real-time monitoring, configuration changes, and troubleshooting from anywhere.

  • Remote Access: Control PoE functions, check port status, and manage settings via the app.
  • Multi-User Sharing: Share control of the switch with family or friends.

3.3 Ultra-Far Transmission Mode

Activate the Ultra-Far mode to extend power and data transmission up to 250 meters (820 feet) over standard Ethernet cables. This is ideal for deployments in large areas, such as long-distance IP camera installations.

3.4 VLAN Network Segmentation

The VLAN mode allows you to divide your network users into specific groups, enhancing security and simplifying network management by preventing interference between different user groups.

3.5 PoE Port Timing Setting (PoE Scheduler)

Improve automatic management and save energy by scheduling when power is delivered to individual PoE ports. This feature allows for continuous operation of certain ports while enabling power cycling or shutdown for others based on a schedule.

4. Maintenance

4.1 Heat Dissipation and Durability

The switch features a sturdy metal casing and a fanless design, which contributes to better heat dissipation and quiet operation. This design ensures longer-lasting performance in various temperature environments.

4.2 Protection Mechanisms

The STEAMEMO PoE Switch incorporates multiple protection features to ensure reliable and safe operation:

  • 4KV Lightning Protection: Professional design with two levels of protection to effectively restrain lightning power from cables, safeguarding the network monitoring system.
  • Network Cable Short-Circuit Protection: Protects against faults caused by short circuits in network ports.
  • Over Current Protection: Prevents damage from excessive current flow.
  • Over Voltage Protection: Guards against damage from voltage spikes.

5. Troubleshooting

This section provides guidance on common issues and how to resolve them.

5.1 Diagnosing Connectivity Issues

  • Port Status Indicators: The SSC App provides visual indicators for each port's network performance and data transmission status:
    • Green: Good data transmission.
    • Orange: Poor data transmission.
    • Black: No data transmission or offline.
  • Check Cables: Ensure all Ethernet cables are securely connected and undamaged.
  • Power Cycle: Disconnect and reconnect the power to the switch and the affected device.
