  • Work in a well-ventilated area. Fuel vapors are flammable.
  • Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), such as gloves and eye protection.
  • Dispose of old fuel and parts responsibly according to local regulations.

Setup and Installation

Replacing a carburetor requires mechanical aptitude. If you are unsure about any step, consult a qualified technician.

  1. Preparation:
    • Turn off the snow blower and disconnect the spark plug wire.
    • Close the fuel shut-off valve (if equipped) and drain the fuel tank into an approved container.
    • Remove any covers or shrouds that obstruct access to the carburetor.
  2. Disconnecting the Old Carburetor:
    • Carefully disconnect the fuel line, throttle linkage, and choke linkage from the old carburetor. Note their positions for reassembly.
    • Remove the mounting bolts or nuts securing the carburetor to the engine.
    • Remove the old carburetor and any old gaskets.
  3. Installing the New Carburetor:
    • Ensure the mounting surfaces are clean. Install new gaskets provided with the Pro Chaser Carburetor.
    • Mount the new carburetor onto the engine, securing it with the original bolts/nuts. Do not overtighten.
    • Reconnect the throttle linkage, choke linkage, and fuel line to their correct positions. Use the new fuel hose and shut-off valve if replacing.
    • Install the new fuel filter in the fuel line, ensuring the flow direction is correct.
    • Connect the new primer bulb if replacing.
  4. Final Steps:
    • Replace any covers or shrouds removed earlier.
    • Refill the fuel tank with fresh, appropriate fuel.
    • Open the fuel shut-off valve.

Operating Instructions (After Carburetor Replacement)

After successful installation, follow your snow blower's manufacturer instructions for starting and operating the engine. The new carburetor should provide proper fuel-air mixture for optimal performance.

  • Priming: Press the primer bulb several times until fuel is visible in the fuel line or bulb.
  • Choke: Set the choke to the "FULL" or "START" position for cold starts.
  • Throttle: Set the throttle to the "FAST" or "START" position.
  • Starting: Pull the recoil starter rope or engage the electric starter.
  • Warm-up: Once the engine starts, gradually move the choke to the "RUN" position as the engine warms up.

Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and performance of your carburetor and snow blower.

  • Fuel System: Use fresh, clean fuel. Stale fuel can cause carburetor issues. Consider using a fuel stabilizer.
  • Fuel Filter: Inspect and replace the fuel filter annually or if it appears clogged.
  • Carburetor Cleaning: If the engine runs poorly, the carburetor may need cleaning. This typically involves disassembling, cleaning jets and passages with carburetor cleaner, and replacing gaskets. This should be performed by a knowledgeable individual.
  • Storage: Before long-term storage, drain the fuel system or run the engine until it runs out of fuel to prevent fuel degradation and carburetor clogging.
