Safety Information

Always prioritize safety when operating power equipment. Failure to follow safety instructions can result in serious injury or death.

  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Always wear eye protection (safety glasses or goggles), hearing protection (earplugs or earmuffs), long pants, and sturdy, non-slip footwear. Consider wearing gloves.
  • Fuel Handling: Gasoline is highly flammable. Handle fuel outdoors in a well-ventilated area, away from sparks, open flames, or other ignition sources. Store fuel in approved containers.
  • Engine Exhaust: Engine exhaust contains carbon monoxide, a colorless, odorless, poisonous gas. Never operate the blower in an enclosed area.
  • Clear Work Area: Before starting, clear the work area of debris, children, pets, and bystanders. Maintain a safe distance from others.
  • Inspect Before Use: Check the blower for loose parts, damaged components, or fuel leaks before each use. Do not operate if damaged.
  • Proper Grip: Always maintain a firm grip on the blower with both hands during operation.

Setup

Before operating your blower, ensure it is properly assembled and fueled.

1. Assembly

Attach the blower tube securely to the main unit. Ensure all connections are tight before use.

2. Fuel Mixing (2-Cycle Engine)

This blower uses a 2-cycle engine and requires a specific gasoline-to-oil mixture. Refer to the engine's fuel cap or a sticker on the unit for the exact mixing ratio (e.g., 50:1 or 40:1).

  • Use fresh, unleaded gasoline with an octane rating of 87 or higher.
  • Use high-quality 2-cycle engine oil specifically designed for air-cooled engines.
  • Mix the fuel and oil thoroughly in an approved fuel container before pouring into the blower's fuel tank.
  • Fill the fuel tank carefully, avoiding spills. Wipe up any spilled fuel immediately.

Operating Instructions

Follow these steps for safe and efficient operation of your Black Max blower.

1. Starting the Engine

  1. Place the blower on a flat, stable surface.
  2. Set the ON/OFF switch to the "ON" position.
  3. Engage the choke lever (usually to the "FULL CHOKE" or "START" position).
  4. Press the primer bulb 5-10 times until fuel is visible in the clear return line.
  5. Pull the starter rope firmly and smoothly until the engine attempts to start (usually 1-3 pulls).
  6. Once the engine "pops" or attempts to start, move the choke lever to the "HALF CHOKE" or "RUN" position.
  7. Pull the starter rope again until the engine starts and runs smoothly.
  8. Allow the engine to warm up for a few seconds before applying full throttle.

2. Using the Blower

The Black Max blower features a variable speed trigger for precise control.

  • Hold the blower firmly with both hands.
  • Direct the blower tube towards the debris you wish to move.
  • Squeeze the variable speed trigger to increase airflow. Use lower speeds for delicate areas and full power (520 CFM / 160 MPH) for heavy debris.
  • Work in a systematic pattern to efficiently clear areas.

3. Shutting Down

To turn off the blower, release the throttle trigger and move the ON/OFF switch to the "OFF" position. Allow the engine to cool before storing.

Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures optimal performance and extends the life of your blower. Always disconnect the spark plug wire before performing any maintenance.

  • Air Filter: Clean the air filter regularly (every 5-10 hours of operation or more frequently in dusty conditions). Remove the filter cover, clean the filter element with warm, soapy water, rinse, and allow to dry completely. Reinstall.
  • Spark Plug: Inspect the spark plug every 25 hours of operation. Clean or replace if fouled or worn. Ensure the gap is correct according to manufacturer specifications.
  • Fuel System: For long-term storage (over 30 days), drain the fuel tank and run the engine until it stops from lack of fuel. This prevents fuel degradation and carburetor issues. Alternatively, use a fuel stabilizer.
  • General Cleaning: Keep the engine cooling fins and air intake clear of debris to prevent overheating. Wipe down the exterior of the blower with a damp cloth.

Troubleshooting

Refer to this section for common issues and their solutions.
