Top Panel Controls

The top panel of the sound bar features several control buttons for easy access to basic functions.

  • Power Button: Turns the sound bar on or off.
  • Input Button: Cycles through available audio inputs (Optical, AUX, Bluetooth).
  • Bluetooth Button: Initiates Bluetooth pairing mode.
  • Volume Down (-): Decreases the volume level.
  • Volume Up (+): Increases the volume level.

Rear Panel Connections

  • AC IN: Connects to the power cable.
  • USB: For firmware updates or audio playback from compatible USB devices.
  • OPTICAL: Digital audio input (recommended for best audio quality).
  • AUX: Analog audio input (3.5mm stereo jack).
  • SUB OUT: Output for an optional external subwoofer (not included).

Setup

1. Placement

Place the sound bar centrally below your television. Ensure there are no obstructions in front of the sound bar for optimal sound projection. The compact design allows it to fit in various environments.

2. Connecting to Power

  1. Connect the power cable to the AC IN port on the back of the sound bar.
  2. Plug the other end of the power cable into a wall outlet.

3. Connecting to an Audio Source

Choose one of the following connection methods:

Optical Connection (Recommended)

  1. Connect an optical cable (not included) from your TV's Optical Digital Output to the OPTICAL port on the sound bar.
  2. Ensure your TV's audio output settings are configured for external speakers and PCM audio format, if applicable.

AUX Connection

  1. Connect the included Stereo RCA to 3.5mm Audio Cable with Adapter from your TV's Audio Out (RCA L/R) or Headphone Out (3.5mm) to the AUX port on the sound bar.

Bluetooth Connection

  1. Refer to the "Bluetooth Pairing" section under Operating Instructions for detailed steps.

Operating Instructions

Power On/Off

Press the Power button on the sound bar's top panel or on the remote control to turn the unit on or off.

Input Selection

Press the Input button on the sound bar or remote control repeatedly to cycle through the available audio inputs: Optical, AUX, and Bluetooth. The sound bar will provide a voice prompt indicating the selected input.

Volume Control

Use the Volume Up (+) and Volume Down (-) buttons on the sound bar or remote control to adjust the master volume. For optimal performance, set your TV's volume to a moderate level and control the primary volume through the sound bar.

Bluetooth Pairing

  1. Press and hold the Bluetooth button on the sound bar or remote control for 3 seconds. The LED indicator on the sound bar will begin to flash, indicating pairing mode.
  2. On your mobile device or computer, enable Bluetooth and search for new devices.
  3. Select "VIZIO SB2020n-J6" from the list of available devices.
  4. Once connected, the LED indicator on the sound bar will stop flashing and remain solid.

DTS Virtual:X

The sound bar features built-in DTS Virtual:X technology, which provides a virtual height and surround sound element for a more immersive listening experience. This feature is automatically active and enhances audio from all connected sources.

Maintenance

To ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your VIZIO SB2020n-J6 Sound Bar, follow these maintenance guidelines:

  • Cleaning: Gently wipe the sound bar's surface with a soft, dry, lint-free cloth. Do not use liquid cleaners, aerosols, or abrasive materials, as they may damage the finish or internal components.
  • Ventilation: Ensure that the ventilation openings are not blocked by dust or debris. Periodically clean any dust accumulation with a soft brush or vacuum cleaner.
  • Storage: If storing the sound bar for an extended period, disconnect it from power and store it in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.

Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your sound bar, refer to the following common problems and solutions:

Distorted sound
  • Reduce the volume on both the sound bar and the audio source.

Bluetooth device cannot pair
  • Ensure the sound bar is in Bluetooth pairing mode (flashing LED).
  • Move the Bluetooth device closer to the sound bar.
  • Clear the sound bar from your device's Bluetooth list and try pairing again.
Sound cuts out at very low volumeThis can occur if the input signal is too low. To mitigate this, increase the volume on your television or audio source to a higher level, and then adjust the sound bar's volume for your desired listening level. This ensures a stronger signal is sent to the sound bar.
