Important Safety Information
Carbon monoxide (CO) is a colorless, odorless, and tasteless gas that can be fatal. This alarm is designed to detect carbon monoxide gas from any source of combustion. It is not designed to detect smoke, fire, or other gases. For optimal safety, ensure proper ventilation and regular maintenance of fuel-burning appliances.
- Do not paint the alarm. Paint can clog the openings and interfere with the sensor's ability to detect CO.
- Do not block the alarm's vents. Ensure air can freely circulate around the device.
- Test the alarm regularly. Press the test button weekly to ensure proper operation.
- Never ignore an alarm. If the alarm sounds, follow the "What to do if the alarm sounds" instructions immediately.
- This alarm is designed for indoor use only. Do not expose it to rain or moisture.

Setup and Installation
Choosing a Location
For optimal protection, install CO alarms in or near every room where fuel-burning appliances are located, and in sleeping areas. Consider placing an alarm on every level of your home. Avoid placing the alarm:
- In direct sunlight or near heat sources.
- In damp or humid areas (e.g., bathrooms).
- Within 1 meter (3 feet) of cooking appliances.
- In dusty, dirty, or greasy areas.
- Behind curtains or furniture.
Mounting the Alarm
The CO-9X10 can be wall-mounted or placed on a flat surface. For wall mounting:
- Select a suitable location, ideally at eye level or higher, but not directly on the ceiling unless specified by local regulations.
- Use the mounting bracket as a template to mark the drill holes on the wall.
- Drill two holes and insert the provided wall plugs.
- Screw the mounting bracket firmly to the wall.
- Attach the CO alarm to the mounting bracket by aligning the alarm with the bracket and twisting it clockwise until it clicks into place.

Initial Activation
The CO-9X10 features a sealed-in lithium battery. The alarm will activate automatically when it is correctly attached to its mounting bracket. Upon activation, the green Power LED will flash once every 45 seconds, indicating normal operation.
Operating Instructions
LED Indicators
- Green Power LED: Flashes once every 45 seconds during normal operation.
- Amber Fault LED: Flashes to indicate a fault or low battery. Refer to the Troubleshooting section.
- Red Alarm LED: Flashes rapidly during a CO alarm event.
Testing the Alarm
It is crucial to test your CO alarm weekly to ensure it is functioning correctly.
- Press and hold the large "TEST/RESET" button on the front of the alarm.
- The alarm will sound a loud, distinctive pattern (typically 4 beeps, pause, 4 beeps) and the Red Alarm LED will flash.
- Release the button. The alarm should stop sounding, and the Red Alarm LED should stop flashing.
- If the alarm does not sound or the LEDs do not respond as described, refer to the Troubleshooting section.
What to do if the Alarm Sounds
If your CO alarm sounds, it indicates the presence of carbon monoxide. Follow these steps immediately:
- Evacuate immediately: Move everyone, including pets, to fresh air outdoors or open doors/windows to ventilate the area.
- Do not re-enter the premises until the alarm has stopped and the area has been ventilated.
- Call emergency services: Contact your local emergency services (e.g., 999 in the UK) or a qualified gas technician to investigate the source of the CO.
- Identify and resolve the source: Do not use fuel-burning appliances until they have been checked by a professional.
Silence Feature
The alarm may have a silence feature for nuisance alarms (e.g., from temporary high CO levels during appliance startup). Pressing the "TEST/RESET" button during an alarm may silence it for a short period. However, if the CO level remains high, the alarm will reactivate. Only use the silence feature if you are certain it is a nuisance alarm and not a genuine CO threat.
Maintenance
Regular Cleaning
Clean your CO alarm regularly to prevent dust and debris from affecting its performance. Use a soft, damp cloth to wipe the exterior. Do not use cleaning solvents or sprays directly on the alarm.
Battery Life and End-of-Life Signal
The FireAngel CO-9X10 is equipped with a sealed-in lithium battery designed to last for 10 years. When the alarm reaches the end of its operational life, it will emit a specific end-of-life signal (e.g., two short beeps every 45 seconds, accompanied by the Amber Fault LED flashing). When this occurs, the alarm needs to be replaced immediately.
Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Alarm sounds continuously (Red LED flashing) | High level of Carbon Monoxide detected. | Evacuate immediately. Call emergency services. Do not re-enter until cleared by professionals. |
| Amber Fault LED flashing / Alarm chirping intermittently | Low battery or fault detected. | The battery is sealed and cannot be replaced. If the alarm is chirping due to low battery or fault, it has reached its end-of-life or is malfunctioning. Replace the alarm immediately. |
| Alarm does not sound when Test button is pressed | Alarm malfunction or end-of-life. | Ensure the alarm is properly mounted. If it still doesn't respond, the alarm is faulty or has reached its end-of-life. Replace the alarm immediately. |
| Green Power LED not flashing | Alarm not activated or malfunction. | Ensure the alarm is securely attached to its mounting bracket. If the issue persists, the alarm may be faulty. Replace the alarm. |
