4. Setup

4.1 Battery Installation

The INKBIRDPLUS INK-IFT03 requires one 9V battery (included). To install or replace the battery:

  1. Locate the battery compartment cover on the handle of the thermometer.
  2. Open the battery compartment cover.
  3. Insert a new 9V battery, ensuring the correct polarity (+/-).
  4. Close the battery compartment cover securely.

The device is now ready for use.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1 Basic Temperature Measurement

  1. Point the thermometer at the target object.
  2. Press and hold the Measurement Trigger. The laser pointer will activate, indicating the measurement area.
  3. The temperature reading will appear on the LCD display. For more accurate readings, hold the trigger for 2-3 seconds.
  4. Release the trigger to hold the reading on the display. The device will automatically shut off after 30 seconds of inactivity to conserve battery.

5.2 Distance to Spot Ratio (D:S)

The INK-IFT03 has a Distance to Spot Ratio (D:S) of 16:1. This means that at a distance of 16 units from the target, the measurement spot size will be 1 unit. For example, if you are 16 inches away from an object, the thermometer will measure a 1-inch diameter spot. To ensure accurate readings, make sure the target area is larger than the spot size, especially when measuring from a distance.

5.3 Switching Temperature Units (°C/°F)

To switch between Celsius (°C) and Fahrenheit (°F):

  1. With the device powered on, press and hold the Backlight/Laser Button for approximately 2-3 seconds.
  2. The unit displayed on the LCD will change.

5.4 Adjustable Emissivity

Emissivity (E) is a measure of an object's ability to emit infrared energy. Different materials have different emissivity values. For accurate temperature readings, it is important to adjust the thermometer's emissivity setting to match the target material. The INK-IFT03 has an adjustable emissivity range of 0.1 to 1.0.

To adjust emissivity:

  1. Press the Mode Switch Button repeatedly until "EMS" appears on the bottom of the LCD display.
  2. Use the Up Key or Down Key to adjust the emissivity value (e.g., 0.95 for most organic materials, 0.98 for ice, 0.94 for oil).
  3. Press the Measurement Trigger to save the setting and return to measurement mode.
Two images of the thermometer measuring different surfaces: one measuring oil with Emissivity=0.94, and another measuring ice with Emissivity=0.98, demonstrating adjustable emissivity.

5.5 Other Functions

  • Backlight: The LCD screen has a backlight for easy reading in low-light conditions.
  • Low Battery Indicator: An icon will appear on the display when the battery level is low, indicating it's time for replacement.
  • High/Low Temperature Alarm: The device may feature adjustable high and low temperature alarms. Consult the on-screen prompts using the Mode button to set these if available.

6. Maintenance

6.1 Cleaning the Device

To ensure accurate readings and prolong the life of your thermometer:

  1. Lens Cleaning: The infrared lens is the most delicate part. Clean it carefully using a soft, damp cloth or cotton swab with a small amount of rubbing alcohol. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
  2. Housing Cleaning: Clean the device housing with a damp cloth and mild soap. Do not immerse the device in water.

6.2 Battery Replacement

When the low battery indicator appears on the display, replace the 9V battery as described in Section 4.1. Always use a fresh, high-quality 9V battery.

6.3 Storage

Store the thermometer in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. If storing for an extended period, remove the battery to prevent leakage.
