4.3 Engine Compatibility Settings (Speed Ratio)
The tachometer requires calibration for your specific engine type. Refer to the table below for common speed ratio settings:
| Engine Type | Poles / Cylinders | Speed Ratio |
|---|---|---|
| Outboard Engine | 4 Poles | 2 |
| 6 Poles | 3 | |
| 8 Poles | 4 | |
| 10 Poles | 5 | |
| 12 Poles | 6 | |
| Inboard Gas Engine | 4 Cylinder | 2 |
| 6 Cylinder | 3 | |
| 8 Cylinder | 4 | |
| 10 Cylinder | 4 | |
| 12 Cylinder | 5 |
5. Operation
5.1 Backlight Color Adjustment
To change the backlight color, briefly press the rubber button located on the backside of the gauge. Each short press will cycle through the following colors:
Red (default) → Green → Blue → White → Yellow → Cyan → Purple → Automatic (cycles colors every 20 seconds) → Red (cycle repeats).

5.2 Tachometer Calibration (Speed Ratio Setting)
To calibrate the tachometer for your engine's speed ratio:
- Press and hold the rubber button on the backside of the gauge for 3 seconds to enter setting mode. If the button is released for more than 3 seconds, the gauge will exit setting mode.
- While in setting mode, each short press of the button will increase the speed ratio value. Releasing the button and pressing it again will decrease the value. Holding the button down for a longer duration will cause the value to change more quickly. The adjustable range for the speed ratio is 1.0 to 360, with a minimum step value of 0.1.
- Once the desired speed ratio value is set (refer to the table in Section 4.3), release the button. The tachometer will automatically save the setting after 3 seconds.
- If the setup does not meet your requirements, repeat the process to re-setup the speed ratio.
6. Maintenance
- Cleaning: Use a soft, damp cloth to clean the gauge surface. Avoid abrasive cleaners or solvents that could damage the bezel or glass.
- Inspection: Periodically check all wiring connections to ensure they are secure and free from corrosion.
- Waterproofing: Ensure the rubber button and rear seal remain intact to maintain the IP67 waterproof rating.
7. Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Gauge does not power on | No power supply; incorrect wiring; blown fuse. | Check power connections (Red and Black wires). Verify fuse in power line. Ensure correct voltage (9-32V). |
| Tachometer needle does not move or is erratic | Incorrect RPM signal connection; faulty RPM sensor; incorrect speed ratio setting. | Verify Blue wire connection to RPM signal. Check RPM sensor functionality. Recalibrate the speed ratio (Section 5.2). |
| Backlight does not change color | Yellow wire not connected; button malfunction. | Ensure Yellow wire is connected to power. Press the button firmly. |
| Gauge fogs up internally | Seal integrity compromised; extreme temperature changes. | While the gauge is designed to prevent fogging, persistent fogging may indicate a seal issue. Contact support if problem persists. |
