Thank you for choosing the ASHATA P9 Portable DAB/FM Radio. This device offers high-quality digital audio broadcasting (DAB/DAB+) and traditional FM radio reception, along with MP3 playback capabilities. Its compact design and rechargeable battery make it ideal for various activities. Please read this manual carefully to ensure proper use and maintenance of your radio.

Controls and Ports:

  • LCD Display: 1.44-inch screen for displaying time, frequency, station information, and battery status.
  • Speaker: Integrated full-range speaker for audio output.
  • Antenna: Extendable telescopic antenna for improved radio reception.
  • Power Button: To turn the device on or off.
  • Volume Buttons (+/-): To adjust the audio volume.
  • M (Mode) Button: To switch between DAB, FM, and MP3 modes.

4. Setup

4.1 Charging the Battery

The ASHATA P9 radio is equipped with a built-in 1000mAh rechargeable lithium-ion battery. Before first use, fully charge the device.

  1. Connect the supplied USB charging cable to the Micro USB port on the side of the radio.
  2. Connect the other end of the USB cable to a standard USB power adapter (DC 5V, 1A recommended) or a computer USB port.
  3. The charging indicator on the screen will show the charging status. The battery icon will typically animate or show full when charging is complete.

Note: A full charge typically takes a few hours. Avoid overcharging to prolong battery life.

4.2 Powering On/Off

  1. To power on, press and hold the Power Button on the side of the radio for a few seconds. The LCD screen will light up.
  2. To power off, press and hold the Power Button again until the screen turns off.

4.3 Extending the Antenna

For optimal radio reception, fully extend the telescopic antenna before operating the radio in DAB or FM mode.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1 Switching Modes

Press the M (Mode) Button repeatedly to cycle through the available modes: DAB Radio, FM Radio, and MP3 Player (if a Micro SD card is inserted).

5.2 DAB/DAB+ Radio Operation

  1. Switch to DAB mode using the M Button.
  2. The radio will automatically perform a full scan for available DAB/DAB+ stations upon first use or if no stations are found. To initiate a scan manually, press the SCAN Button. The radio will display the scanning progress.
  3. Once scanning is complete, the radio will tune to the first available station.
  4. Use the TUNING/SELECT Buttons (left/right arrows) to navigate through the list of available stations.
  5. The LCD screen will display station name, program type, signal strength, and other real-time text information (DLS).

Saving DAB Presets:

  1. Tune to the desired DAB station.
  2. Press and hold the PRESET Button. The screen will show a preset number (e.g., P1).
  3. Use the TUNING/SELECT Buttons to choose a preset slot (1-10).
  4. Press the PRESET Button again to confirm and save the station.

Recalling DAB Presets:

  1. Briefly press the PRESET Button.
  2. Use the TUNING/SELECT Buttons to select the desired preset station.
  3. Press the TUNING/SELECT (center) Button or wait a few seconds for the radio to tune to the selected preset.

5.3 FM Radio Operation

  1. Switch to FM mode using the M Button.
  2. To automatically scan for FM stations, press the SCAN Button. The radio will scan and save available stations.
  3. To manually tune, use the TUNING/SELECT Buttons (left/right arrows) to adjust the frequency step by step. Press and hold these buttons for a quick scan to the next strong station.
  4. The LCD screen will display the FM frequency and RDS (Radio Data System) information if available.

Saving FM Presets:

The process for saving and recalling FM presets is similar to DAB presets. The radio supports 10 FM presets.

5.4 MP3 Player Operation

The radio supports MP3 playback from a Micro SD card (up to 32GB, not included).

  1. Insert a Micro SD card with MP3 files into the Micro SD Card Slot on the side of the radio.
  2. Switch to MP3 mode using the M Button. The radio will automatically start playing the first MP3 file.
  3. Use the TUNING/SELECT Buttons (left/right arrows) to skip to the previous or next track.
  4. The LCD screen will display track information.

5.5 Volume Control

Use the Volume Buttons (+/-) on the side of the radio to increase or decrease the listening volume.

5.6 Mute Function

Press the MUTE Button to temporarily silence the audio. Press it again to resume playback.

5.7 Headphone Use

Plug any standard 3.5mm stereo headphones into the Headphone Jack for private listening. The internal speaker will automatically mute when headphones are connected.

5.8 Sleep Timer

Press the SLEEP Button to activate the sleep timer function. Repeatedly press the button to cycle through available sleep times (e.g., 15, 30, 45, 60, 90 minutes, or OFF). The radio will automatically turn off after the selected time.

6. Maintenance

To ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your ASHATA P9 radio, follow these maintenance guidelines:

  • Cleaning: Wipe the radio with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners, solvents, or strong chemicals, as these may damage the surface.
  • Storage: When not in use for extended periods, store the radio in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
  • Battery Care: To maintain battery health, avoid fully discharging the battery frequently. If storing for a long time, charge the battery to about 50% every few months.
  • Water Exposure: This radio is not waterproof. Avoid exposing it to water, rain, or high humidity.
  • Antenna Care: Handle the telescopic antenna gently to prevent bending or breaking.

7. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your ASHATA P9 radio, please refer to the following common problems and solutions:
