Operating the Keyboard

1. QMK/VIA Programmability

The Keychron Q4 is fully compatible with QMK and VIA software, allowing you to program and remap each key, create macros, and customize lighting effects. To use VIA:

  1. Connect the Q4 to your device using the provided cable.
  2. Download and install the VIA software from the official Keychron website or the VIA website.
  3. Import the Q4 keymap JSON file into the VIA software. This file is typically available on the Keychron product page or support section.
  4. Use the drag-and-drop interface within VIA to remap keys or assign macro commands for macOS, Windows, or Linux operating systems.

Maintenance

1. Hot-Swappable Switches

The Keychron Q4 features hot-swappable sockets, allowing you to easily change mechanical switches without soldering. It supports almost all 3-pin and 5-pin MX style mechanical switches (e.g., Cherry, Gateron, Kailh, Panda).

  1. Use the provided switch puller to carefully remove the existing switch.
  2. Align the pins of the new switch with the holes on the PCB.
  3. Gently press the new switch into place until it clicks securely. Ensure pins are not bent.

  1. Use the keycap puller to gently grip and lift keycaps off the switches.
  2. Clean keycaps with a mild soap solution and a soft cloth, then dry thoroughly.
  3. To reattach, align the keycap stem with the switch stem and press down firmly.
