  • Red Light: Indicates the battery is currently charging (below 80% capacity).
  • Yellow Light: Indicates the battery has reached approximately 80% of its capacity.
  • Green Light: Indicates the battery is fully charged (100%). The charger will then switch to a trickle charge mode to maintain the battery.

6. Battery Type Selection

This charger is equipped with three distinct charging algorithms to optimize charging for different battery chemistries. It is crucial to select the correct algorithm for your battery type to ensure efficient charging and battery longevity.

Figure 6.1: Battery algorithm selection panel on the charger.

On the charger's control panel, locate the "Charging Algorithm Selection" area. You will find checkboxes or a similar mechanism to choose from the following battery types:

  • Flooded/Lead-acid battery: For traditional wet-cell batteries.
  • Maintenance-free battery: For sealed lead-acid (SLA) or gel batteries.
  • Lithium iron phosphate battery: For LiFePO4 batteries.

Ensure the correct battery type is selected before initiating charging. Incorrect selection can damage your battery or reduce its performance.

7. Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and optimal performance of your charger:

  • Cleaning: Periodically wipe the charger's exterior with a dry, soft cloth. Do not use harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners.
  • Cable Inspection: Regularly inspect the AC power cord and the D-style plug for any signs of damage, fraying, or corrosion. Replace damaged cables immediately.
  • Storage: When not in use, store the charger in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
  • Ventilation: Ensure the heat sink fins are free from dust and debris to maintain proper heat dissipation.
