4. Operating Instructions

4.1 Extending the Blade

Grasp the tape measure firmly. Pull the blade out from the case to the desired length. The blade will extend smoothly.

4.2 Locking the Blade

To lock the blade in place, push the red lock button located on the top of the case forward until it clicks. This will prevent the blade from retracting.

4.3 Retracting the Blade

To retract the blade, push the red lock button backward to release the lock. The blade will automatically retract into the case. Guide the blade gently to prevent rapid retraction, which can cause wear or injury.

4.4 Taking Measurements

  • Standard Measurement: Hook the dual-end hook onto the edge of the object you wish to measure. Extend the blade to the desired point and read the measurement.
  • Inside Measurement: For inside measurements, extend the blade to the inside corner, then add the length of the tape measure case (typically marked on the case itself, or refer to specifications for precise case length).
  • Vertical Measurement: Utilize the horizontal measuring scale printed on the backside of the blade for convenient vertical measurements.

5. Maintenance

Proper maintenance ensures the longevity and accuracy of your tape measure.

  • Cleaning: Wipe the blade and case with a clean, dry cloth after each use. If necessary, a slightly damp cloth can be used, but ensure the tape measure is completely dry before storing. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
  • Storage: Store the tape measure in a dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. Ensure the blade is fully retracted before storage.
  • Inspection: Periodically inspect the blade for kinks, tears, or excessive wear. Check the hook for bending or damage.

6. Troubleshooting

6.1 Blade Does Not Retract Smoothly

If the blade does not retract smoothly, it may be due to dirt or debris inside the case or on the blade. Gently extend the blade fully and wipe it clean. If the issue persists, the internal spring mechanism may be damaged, and the unit may need replacement.

6.2 Hook is Loose or Damaged

The dual-end hook is designed to have a slight amount of play to account for blade thickness in push/pull measurements. If the hook appears excessively loose or is bent, it may affect measurement accuracy. If severely damaged, consider replacing the tape measure.
