4. Setup Instructions

4.1 Hard Drive Installation

The MC25 Pro supports both 2.5-inch SATA drives and M.2 NVMe/NGFF drives. Follow these steps to install your hard drives:

  1. Carefully turn the hub upside down to access the hard drive bays.
  2. For 2.5-inch SATA drives: Open the designated bay cover. Insert the 2.5-inch SATA HDD/SSD into the slot, ensuring it connects properly to the SATA interface. Secure the cover.
  3. For M.2 NVMe/NGFF drives: Open the designated bay cover. Insert the M.2 drive into its slot at an angle, then gently push down and secure it with the provided screw (if applicable). Secure the cover.
  4. Ensure all covers are securely closed before proceeding.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1 Port Usage

  • USB 3.1 Gen2 (10Gbps) & USB 3.0 (5Gbps) Ports: Use these ports for connecting high-speed peripherals such as external SSDs, flash drives, or other USB devices.
  • USB-C (10Gbps) Port: Connect compatible USB-C devices for data transfer.
  • SD/Micro SD Card Slots: Insert your SD or Micro SD cards for quick data access and transfer.
  • DP1.4 Port: Connect a DisplayPort cable to an external monitor for 4K/60Hz video output. Ensure the USB-C(B) power input is connected for stable display performance.

5.2 Dual Screen Expansion

To utilize the dual screen expansion feature:

  1. Connect your Mac Mini/Studio to the hub via the USB-C(A) port.
  2. Connect an external power source to the USB-C(B) port on the hub.
  3. Connect your external monitor to the DP1.4 port on the hub using a DisplayPort cable.
  4. Adjust display settings on your Mac to extend or mirror your desktop as desired.

5.3 Data Transfer

The hub supports high-speed data transfer for connected devices and internal hard drives. When transferring large files, ensure all connections are secure. Note that actual speeds may vary based on the host device (e.g., Apple M1 chip limitations) and the type of storage media used.

6. Troubleshooting

  • Hard drives not detected or frequently disconnecting: Ensure the USB-C(B) port is connected to an external power source, especially when using two hard drives simultaneously. Check that drives are correctly seated in their bays.
  • DisplayPort not working: Verify that the USB-C(B) port is connected to an external power source. Ensure your DisplayPort cable is securely connected to both the hub and the monitor.
  • Slow data transfer speeds: While the hub supports 10Gbps, actual speeds can be affected by the host device (e.g., Apple M1 chip limitations) and the quality of the connected cables and storage devices. Ensure you are using high-quality USB-C cables.
  • Hub not recognized by host device: Disconnect and reconnect the USB-C(A) cable. Try connecting to a different USB-C port on your host device. Restart your computer.
