Setup

1. Charging the Controller

The controller comes with a built-in rechargeable lithium-ion battery. Before first use, fully charge the controller.

  1. Connect the small end of the included 10 ft (3m) USB-C charge cable to the USB-C port on the top of the controller.
  2. Connect the other end of the cable to a USB port on your Nintendo Switch dock or a USB wall charger (not included).
  3. The LED indicator on the front of the controller will illuminate to show charging status. It will turn off when fully charged.

2. Pairing with Nintendo Switch

Follow these steps to pair your wireless controller with your Nintendo Switch console:

  1. Ensure your Nintendo Switch console is powered on and updated to the latest system version.
  2. From the HOME Menu, select Controllers, then Change Grip/Order.
  3. While on the Change Grip/Order screen, press and hold the SYNC Button on the back of the PowerA controller for at least three seconds. The Player LED(s) will begin to flash.
  4. Once paired, the Player LED(s) will remain solid, indicating the controller is connected.
  5. Press the A Button to confirm and exit the menu.

Note: The controller will automatically reconnect to your Switch console when powered on and within range, provided it was previously paired.

Operating Instructions

Advanced Gaming Buttons

The controller features two mappable Advanced Gaming Buttons (AGB) on the back, allowing for on-the-fly button assignments.

  1. Press the Program Button on the back of the controller. The Program LED will flash, indicating the controller is in programming mode.
  2. Press the button you wish to map (A/B/X/Y, L/R, ZL/ZR, Left Stick Press, Right Stick Press, D-pad). The Program LED will flash rapidly.
  3. Press the Advanced Gaming Button (AGB L or AGB R) you wish to assign. The Program LED will stop flashing, indicating the button has been successfully mapped.
  4. To clear a mapped button, press the Program Button and then the AGB you wish to clear. The Program LED will turn off.

Motion Controls

This controller supports motion controls for compatible Nintendo Switch games. The internal gyroscope allows for intuitive tilt-based gameplay.

Low Battery Warning

When the controller's battery is low, the Low Battery Warning LED indicator on the front of the controller will flash. Connect the USB-C charge cable to recharge the controller.

Maintenance

  • Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the controller. Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive materials.
  • Storage: Store the controller in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
  • Battery Care: To prolong battery life, avoid fully discharging the controller frequently. Charge it regularly, even if not in constant use.
  • Cable Care: Handle the USB-C charge cable carefully. Avoid bending or twisting it excessively.

Troubleshooting

Controller not pairing or connecting:
  • Ensure the controller is charged.
  • Verify the Nintendo Switch console is updated to the latest system version.
  • Repeat the pairing process as described in the "Pairing with Nintendo Switch" section.
  • Move closer to the Nintendo Switch console to ensure you are within Bluetooth range.
  • Try restarting your Nintendo Switch console.
Buttons or joysticks are unresponsive:
  • Ensure the controller is properly connected and charged.
  • Test the controller in a different game or in the Switch's controller calibration settings.
  • If issues persist, contact PowerA support.
Battery not holding a charge:
  • Ensure the USB-C cable is securely connected to both the controller and a power source.
  • Try a different USB port or wall adapter.
  • The internal battery has a limited lifespan. If the controller is old, battery degradation may occur.
Important Limitations:
This controller does NOT support HD rumble, IR (Infrared), or Amiibo NFC functionality. These features are exclusive to official Nintendo Joy-Con controllers and some Nintendo Pro Controllers.
