Controls and Functions:

• Cassette Controls: Play, Stop, Fast Forward, Rewind.

Setup

Powering the Unit (Battery Installation)

The Walkabout II operates on two (2) "AA" batteries (included). An AC power adapter (not included) can also be used.

1. Locate the battery compartment on the back of the unit.
2. Slide open the battery compartment cover.
3. Insert two "AA" batteries, ensuring the correct polarity (+ and -) as indicated inside the compartment.
4. Close the battery compartment cover securely.

Note: Remove batteries if the unit will not be used for an extended period to prevent leakage and damage.

Attaching the Belt Clip

The detachable belt clip allows for convenient portability.

1. Align the belt clip with the designated slots on the back of the unit.
2. Slide the clip firmly into place until it clicks, securing it to the player.
3. To remove, press the release tab (if present) and slide the clip off.

Operating Instructions

Playing a Cassette Tape

1. Ensure the unit is powered on (batteries inserted or AC adapter connected).
2. Open the cassette compartment door.
3. Insert a cassette tape with the exposed tape facing upwards.
4. Close the cassette compartment door firmly.
5. Set the Function Switch to "TAPE".
6. Press the PLAY button to begin playback.
7. Adjust the VOL (Volume) knob to your desired listening level.
8. Use the FAST FORWARD or REWIND buttons to navigate through the tape.
9. Press the STOP button to end playback. The auto-stop feature will also stop playback at the end of the tape.

Listening to AM/FM Radio

1. Ensure the unit is powered on.
2. Set the Function Switch to "FM" for FM radio or "AM" for AM radio.
3. Extend the telescopic antenna for optimal FM reception. For AM reception, rotate the unit for best signal.
4. Rotate the TUNING DIAL to select your desired radio station.
5. Adjust the VOL (Volume) knob to your desired listening level.

Recording to Cassette Tape

The Walkabout II supports recording from the built-in microphone, an external microphone (via Mic Jack), or directly from the AM/FM radio.

1. Insert a blank or recordable cassette tape into the compartment.
2. To record from Built-in Microphone: Set the Function Switch to "TAPE". Press the RECORD button (usually combined with PLAY, often red). Speak clearly into the built-in microphone.
3. To record from External Microphone: Connect an external microphone to the MIC JACK. Set the Function Switch to "TAPE". Press the RECORD button.
4. To record from Radio: Set the Function Switch to "FM" or "AM" and tune to your desired station. Then, press the RECORD button. The unit will automatically switch to record mode from the radio source.
5. Press the STOP button to end recording.

Note: Ensure the cassette tape has its record protection tabs intact if you wish to record over existing content. If the tabs are broken, the tape cannot be recorded on.

Using Earphones

For private listening, connect the included stereo earphones (or any standard 3.5mm headphones) to the HEADPHONE JACK. The built-in speaker will automatically mute when earphones are connected.

Maintenance

Cleaning the Unit

• Wipe the exterior of the unit with a soft, slightly damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
• Periodically clean the cassette head, pinch roller, and capstan with a cotton swab lightly moistened with isopropyl alcohol. This helps maintain sound quality and prevents tape damage.
• Keep the cassette compartment free of dust and debris.

Storage

When not in use for extended periods, store the unit in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. Remove batteries to prevent leakage.
