2. Setup Instructions
- Unpacking: Carefully remove the air compressor from its packaging. Inspect for any signs of damage during transit.
- Placement: Place the compressor on a stable, level surface. Ensure the rubber feet are properly positioned to prevent movement and protect surfaces.
- Power Connection: Unwind the power cord from the integrated cord wrap. Plug the 120V power cord into a grounded electrical outlet. The low-amp motor is designed for easy starting, even with an extension cord if necessary.

- Initial Pressure Build-up:
- Locate the ON/OFF switch (typically a red rocker switch on the control panel).
- Flip the switch to the 'ON' position. The compressor will begin to fill the tank.
- Monitor the tank pressure gauge. The compressor will automatically shut off once it reaches its maximum pressure of 150 PSI.
- Before connecting any air tools, ensure the regulator knob is turned fully counter-clockwise to the lowest pressure setting.
3. Operating Instructions
- Connecting Air Tools:
- Ensure the compressor is off and the regulated pressure is at its lowest setting.
- Attach your air hose to one of the two quick-connect couplers on the control panel.
- Connect your desired air tool to the other end of the air hose.
- Adjusting Pressure:
- Turn the compressor ON.
- Slowly turn the regulator knob clockwise to increase the regulated pressure to the desired PSI for your tool. The regulated pressure gauge will show the current output pressure.
- Turn the knob counter-clockwise to decrease pressure.

- Using the Compressor:
- Once the desired pressure is set, you can begin using your air tool.
- The compressor will automatically cycle on and off to maintain tank pressure as air is consumed.
- Always wear appropriate safety gear, including hearing protection, when operating the compressor and air tools.

4. Maintenance
The PORTER-CABLE C2002-ECOM features an oil-free pump, which significantly reduces maintenance requirements. However, regular draining of the air tank is crucial to prevent rust and ensure longevity.
- Draining the Air Tank:
- Before draining, turn off the compressor and unplug it from the power source.
- Slowly open the drain valve located at the bottom of the tank to release any condensed moisture. This should be done after each use or at least daily if used frequently.
- Allow all air and moisture to escape. Close the drain valve tightly once complete.
- General Cleaning: Keep the compressor clean and free of dust and debris. Wipe down the exterior with a damp cloth. Do not use harsh chemicals.
5. Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Compressor runs continuously or frequently. | Air leak in tank or connections. | Check all connections for leaks using soapy water. Tighten fittings or replace seals as needed. Ensure drain valve is fully closed. |
| Compressor is excessively loud. | Normal operation noise; loose components. | Air compressors are inherently noisy. Ensure all screws and bolts are tight. Always use hearing protection. |
| Compressor does not start. | No power; thermal overload activated. | Check power connection and circuit breaker. Allow unit to cool down if thermal overload is tripped. |
| Low air pressure at tool. | Regulator set too low; air leak in hose/tool. | Adjust regulator knob clockwise. Check air hose and tool connections for leaks. |
