2. Safety Information

  • Power Supply: Ensure the power supply voltage is within the specified range of 10-15 VDC. Using an incorrect voltage may damage the device.
  • Power Output: Do not attempt to tune with power lower than 5W, as this may result in insufficient tuning. While the device can handle up to 100 watts after tuning, it is recommended to keep power below 30 watts during the initial tuning process.
  • Ventilation: Ensure adequate ventilation around the device to prevent overheating, especially during prolonged operation.
  • Environment: Avoid exposing the tuner to moisture, extreme temperatures, or direct sunlight. Operate in a clean, dry environment.
  • Modifications: Do not attempt to disassemble or modify the device. Unauthorized modifications will void the warranty and may lead to malfunction or injury.
  • Connections: Always ensure all antenna and power connections are secure before powering on the device.

5. Setup

5.1 Powering the ATU-100 EXT

The ATU-100 EXT requires a 10-15 VDC power supply. It does not include an internal battery. The package includes a DC5.5 x 2.1 power cord and a USB 5V to 9V/12V booster board for flexible power options.

Using the USB Booster Board:

If you intend to power the tuner from a 5V USB source (e.g., a power bank), you will need to use the provided USB booster board. This board converts 5V to 12V.

  • Connect the USB cable to the booster board's input.
  • Solder the 5.5 x 2.1 connector power cable (included) to the output terminals of the booster board. Ensure correct polarity (+ and -).
  • Plug the 5.5 x 2.1 connector into the DC12V input on the rear of the ATU-100 EXT.

Voltage Regulation (Booster Board):

To adjust the output voltage of the booster board, locate the potentiometer. Turn it clockwise to increase the voltage and counter-clockwise to decrease it. If the output voltage cannot be adjusted and always equals the input voltage, rotate the potentiometer counter-clockwise more than 10 turns before attempting to adjust it normally.

5.2 Connecting the Antenna and Radio

  1. Connect your antenna to the ANT connector on the rear panel of the ATU-100 EXT.
  2. Connect your radio's RF output to the RF IN connector on the rear panel of the ATU-100 EXT.
  3. Ensure all connections are tight and secure.

6. Operating Instructions

The ATU-100 EXT offers several operating modes for antenna tuning.

6.1 Power On/Off

Press the red POWER switch to turn the device on or off.

6.2 Tuning Modes

Image: Visual representation of Automatic and BYP modes on the display.

Automatic Mode:

  • When a dot ('.') appears on the display, the tuner is in automatic mode.
  • In this mode, the tuner will automatically adjust inductance and capacitance to achieve the lowest SWR when RF power is applied.
  • Press the AUTO button to toggle automatic mode.

BYP (Bypass) Mode:

  • When an underscore ('_') appears on the display, the tuner is in bypass mode.
  • In bypass mode, the tuner's matching network is bypassed, and the RF signal passes directly through.
  • Press the BYP button to toggle bypass mode.

Manual Tuning:

  • To initiate a manual tune, press the green TUNE button. The tuner will perform a tuning cycle to find the best match.
  • It is recommended to transmit a low power signal (e.g., 5-10W) during tuning. Do not transmit below 5W.
  • After tuning, the device can handle up to 100 watts.

6.3 Test Modes
