4. Setup and Installation

Proper installation is crucial for the optimal performance of your dehumidifier. The Santa Fe Ultra70 is designed for various installation scenarios, including basements, crawl spaces, and ducted whole-home applications.

4.1 Placement

Choose a location that allows for adequate airflow around the unit. Ensure the unit is placed on a level surface. If installing in a crawl space or basement, consider elevating the unit to protect it from potential water damage.

4.2 Leveling

Attach the four leveling feet to the bottom of the unit. Adjust the feet to ensure the dehumidifier is perfectly level. This is important for proper condensate drainage.

4.3 Drainage

The unit requires continuous drainage. Connect a suitable drain hose (not included) to the condensate drain port. Route the hose to a floor drain, condensate pump, or other suitable drainage point, ensuring a continuous downward slope for gravity drainage.

4.4 Electrical Connection

Plug the dehumidifier into a dedicated 115V, 15 Amp grounded electrical outlet. Do not use extension cords or adapter plugs.

4.5 Ducting (Optional)

For whole-home ventilation and dehumidification, the Ultra70 can be ducted. Consult a qualified HVAC professional for proper ducting installation to ensure optimal performance and air distribution.

5. Operating Instructions

The Santa Fe Ultra70 Dehumidifier is designed for straightforward operation. Note that a separate controller is typically required for full functionality and precise humidity control.

5.1 Initial Power-Up

Once the unit is properly installed and connected to power, it will be in standby mode. The unit has a simple ON/OFF switch located on the control panel.

5.2 Using an External Controller

For optimal performance and automated humidity control, it is recommended to connect an external dehumidistat or ventilation controller (purchased separately). These controllers allow you to set a desired humidity level, schedule operation, and manage ventilation functions.

  • Refer to the instruction manual of your specific external controller for detailed programming and operation procedures.
  • Common settings include target relative humidity (e.g., 50-55% RH) and fan operation modes.

6. Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and efficient operation of your Santa Fe Ultra70 Dehumidifier.

6.1 Air Filter Replacement

The MERV-13 air filter should be inspected monthly and replaced every 3-6 months, or more frequently depending on usage and air quality. A dirty filter restricts airflow and reduces dehumidifier efficiency.

  1. Unplug the dehumidifier from the power outlet.
  2. Locate the filter access panel (refer to unit diagram in full manual).
  3. Remove the old filter and dispose of it properly.
  4. Insert a new MERV-13 filter, ensuring it is oriented correctly according to the airflow arrow.
  5. Close the filter access panel.

6.2 Coil Cleaning

Periodically inspect the evaporator and condenser coils for dust and debris. If coils are dirty, gently clean them with a soft brush or vacuum cleaner. For heavy buildup, specialized coil cleaner may be required. Consult a professional if unsure.

6.3 Drain Line Maintenance

Ensure the condensate drain line remains clear and free of obstructions. Flush the drain line with a mild bleach solution (1 part bleach to 16 parts water) annually to prevent algae and mold growth.
