4. Setup and Installation

4.1 Mounting the SH Lock Holder

The SH Lock Holder allows for convenient transport of your Bordo 6000C lock on your bicycle frame. It can be mounted using either the provided tension straps or by utilizing existing bottle cage mounts on your frame.

  1. Choose Mounting Location: Select a suitable location on your bicycle frame, typically where a bottle cage would be mounted, or a clear section of the frame tube.
  2. Strap Mounting (Tool-free):
    • Thread the tension straps through the designated slots on the SH holder.
    • Wrap the straps around the bicycle frame and secure them tightly. Ensure the holder is stable and does not rotate.
  3. Screw Mounting (Using bottle cage mounts):
    • Align the SH holder with the bottle cage screw holes on your frame.
    • Use appropriate screws (not always included, may use existing bottle cage screws) to firmly attach the holder to the frame.
  4. Insert Lock: Slide the folded Bordo 6000C lock into the SH holder until it clicks securely into place. The lock can be removed from the front of the holder for quick access.

5. Operating the Lock

5.1 Setting Your Personal Combination Code

The ABUS Bordo 6000C comes with a factory-set combination (usually 0000). You can easily change this to a personal 4-digit code.

  1. Open the Lock: Ensure the lock is in the unlocked position by aligning the current combination (factory default 0000) with the indicator marks.
  2. Locate Reset Mechanism: On the side or bottom of the lock head, locate a small screw or lever. This is typically a small, recessed screw that needs to be turned 90 degrees clockwise or a lever that needs to be pushed down. (Refer to the specific diagram on your lock if available).
  3. Set New Combination: While the reset mechanism is engaged, rotate the number wheels to your desired 4-digit combination. Choose a memorable but secure code.
  4. Disengage Reset Mechanism: Return the screw or lever to its original position (90 degrees counter-clockwise for a screw, or release the lever).
  5. Test New Combination: Scramble the numbers, then re-enter your new combination to ensure it opens the lock. This step is crucial before locking your bike.

5.2 Locking Your Bicycle

  1. Unfold the Lock: Extend the folding bars of the lock to their full length.
  2. Position the Lock: Wrap the lock around your bicycle frame (and wheel, if desired) and a fixed, immovable object such as a bike rack, lamppost, or sturdy fence. Ensure the object cannot be easily cut or dismantled.
  3. Insert and Close: Insert the end of the lock into the locking mechanism until it clicks securely.
  4. Scramble Numbers: Once locked, scramble the combination numbers on the dial to secure your bicycle.
