2. Safety Information
- Laser Safety: Do not point the laser directly at eyes or indirectly off reflective surfaces.
- Not for Human Use: This thermometer is designed for industrial and cooking applications, not for measuring human body temperature.
- Electrical Safety: Do not expose the device to water or extreme temperatures.
- Battery Safety: Use only specified batteries (2 AAA). Ensure correct polarity. Remove batteries if storing for extended periods.
- Maintenance: Do not attempt to disassemble or repair the unit yourself. Refer to qualified service personnel.
3. Product Overview
The ThermoPro TP450 features a robust design with intuitive controls. Key components include:
- Dual Laser Pointers: For precise targeting of the measurement area.
- Infrared Sensor: Detects surface temperature.
- LCD Display: Large, colorful BTN panel for clear temperature readings.
- Trigger: Activates the measurement and laser.
- Mode Button: Cycles through MAX/MIN/AVG temperature displays.
- Up/Down Buttons: Adjust emissivity and switch between Celsius/Fahrenheit.
- Battery Compartment: Located in the handle, uses 2 AAA batteries.
4. Setup
4.1 Battery Installation
- Locate the battery compartment cover on the handle of the device.
- Slide the cover downwards to open the compartment.
- Insert two (2) AAA batteries, ensuring correct polarity (+ and - terminals). The device comes with batteries included.
- Close the battery compartment cover by sliding it upwards until it clicks into place.
5. Operating Instructions
5.1 Taking a Temperature Measurement
- Point the thermometer at the target surface.
- Press and hold the trigger. The dual laser pointers will activate, indicating the measurement area.
- The current temperature will be displayed on the LCD screen within 0.5 seconds.
- Release the trigger to hold the reading on the display. The device will automatically shut off after 90 seconds of inactivity to conserve battery life.

5.2 Distance-to-Spot Ratio (D:S)
The TP450 has a Distance-to-Spot Ratio (D:S) of 16:1. This means that from a distance of 16 inches, the measurement spot size will be 1 inch. To ensure accurate readings, measure from a distance where the spot size is smaller than the object being measured. Measuring from a longer distance will result in a larger spot size, potentially including surrounding areas in the measurement.

Figure 3: Illustration of the 16:1 Distance-to-Spot Ratio, showing how the measurement area expands with distance.
5.3 Adjustable Emissivity
Emissivity is the efficiency with which an object emits thermal energy. Different materials have different emissivities. The TP450 allows you to adjust the emissivity from 0.10 to 1.00 for improved accuracy across various surface types. Consult the emissivity table in the specifications section or common online resources for typical values.
- Press the MODE button until the emissivity icon appears.
- Use the UP and DOWN buttons to adjust the emissivity value.

5.4 Display Modes (MAX/MIN/AVG)
The TP450 offers different display modes to view maximum, minimum, or average temperatures during a continuous scan:
- While holding the trigger, press the MODE button repeatedly to cycle through:
- MAX: Displays the maximum temperature recorded during the scan.
- MIN: Displays the minimum temperature recorded during the scan.
- AVG: Displays the average temperature recorded during the scan.

5.5 Temperature Unit Selection
To switch between Celsius (°C) and Fahrenheit (°F), press the °C/°F button located on the device.
5.6 Display Backlight
The large, colorful BTN display ensures readability even in dim conditions. The backlight activates automatically when the device is in use.

6. Maintenance
- Cleaning: Wipe the device clean with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or immerse the device in water.
- Storage: Store the thermometer in a dry, cool place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. Remove batteries if storing for extended periods.
- Lens Care: Keep the infrared lens clean and free from dust or debris to ensure accurate readings. Use a soft cloth or cotton swab with a small amount of isopropyl alcohol if necessary.
7. Troubleshooting
- No Display/Low Battery Indicator: Replace the 2 AAA batteries.
- Inaccurate Readings:
- Ensure the target object is within the optimal measurement distance (16:1 D:S ratio).
- Adjust the emissivity setting to match the material being measured.
- Check for obstructions or dirt on the infrared lens.
- Allow the thermometer to stabilize to ambient temperature if moved from a significantly different temperature environment.
- Laser Not Visible: Ensure the laser function is enabled (if applicable) and check battery levels.
