3. Adjusting the Clutch/Torque
The clutch selector ring (numbered 1-24) allows you to adjust the torque output. Lower numbers are for driving small screws or working with soft materials, while higher numbers are for larger screws or harder materials. The drill mode symbol (drill bit icon) bypasses the clutch for maximum torque in drilling applications.

Figure 4: Top view of the RYOBI ONE+ HP 18V Brushless Cordless 1/2 in. Hammer Drill, showing the adjustable chuck and the clutch/torque selector ring with numerical settings and mode icons.
4. Selecting the Mode
Rotate the mode selector ring to choose the desired function:
- Drill Mode (🔩): For drilling holes in wood, metal, and plastic. The clutch is disengaged for maximum power.
- Drive Mode (🔧): For driving screws. The clutch engages to prevent over-driving.
- Hammer Drill Mode (🔨): For drilling into masonry, brick, and concrete. Combines rotation with a hammering action.
5. Adjusting the Speed
The drill features a two-speed gearbox. Use the speed selector switch located on top of the drill:
- Speed 1 (Low): For high torque applications, such as driving screws or drilling large holes.
- Speed 2 (High): For faster drilling in smaller holes or lighter materials.
Operating
1. Basic Drilling Techniques
- Always secure your workpiece to prevent movement.
- Start drilling at a low speed to create a pilot hole or to prevent the bit from walking.
- Apply steady, even pressure. Do not force the drill.
- For deep holes, periodically withdraw the bit to clear debris.
2. Using Hammer Drill Function
When drilling into masonry, brick, or concrete:
- Select the Hammer Drill Mode on the mode selector.
- Use appropriate masonry drill bits.
- Apply firm, consistent pressure. The hammering action will assist in penetrating hard materials.
- Do not apply excessive force, as this can damage the bit or the tool.
3. Forward/Reverse Operation
The forward/reverse switch is located above the trigger. Push it to the left for forward rotation (clockwise) and to the right for reverse rotation (counter-clockwise). Always ensure the switch is in the center (locked) position when not in use or when changing bits.
4. LED Light Function
The integrated LED light automatically illuminates when the trigger is pressed, providing visibility in dimly lit work areas.

1. Cleaning the Tool
- Always remove the battery pack before cleaning.
- Use a clean, dry cloth to wipe down the exterior of the tool.
