Key Components:
- Ethernet Port (RJ45): Used for wired connections in AP mode or for initial setup.
- Reset Button: Press and hold for 8 seconds to restore factory default settings.
- LED Indicator: Displays the device's status (power, Wi-Fi signal, connection).
- Power Plug: Integrated directly into the device for direct wall outlet connection.
4. Setup
Follow these steps to set up your Gembird Wi-Fi Repeater.
4.1 Initial Placement
- Plug the repeater into a power outlet in the same room as your main Wi-Fi router. This ensures a strong initial signal for configuration.
- Wait for the LED indicator to stabilize, typically indicating the device is powered on and ready.
4.2 Connecting to the Repeater
You can connect to the repeater wirelessly or via an Ethernet cable.
Wireless Connection:
- On your computer or mobile device, search for available Wi-Fi networks.
- Connect to the network named similar to "Gembird_XXXXXX" or "Wireless-N" (default SSID). This network will not have internet access yet.
Wired Connection:
- Connect one end of an Ethernet cable to the repeater's Ethernet port.
- Connect the other end of the Ethernet cable to your computer's Ethernet port.
4.3 Accessing the Web Interface
- Open a web browser (e.g., Chrome, Firefox, Edge).
- In the address bar, type the default IP address: 192.168.10.1 and press Enter.
- A login window will appear. Enter the default username and password (usually admin for both). Refer to the device label if these credentials do not work.
5. Operating Modes
The Gembird WNP-RP300-03 supports two main operating modes:
5.1 Repeater Mode (Wi-Fi Extender)
In Repeater Mode, the device extends the range of an existing wireless network. It connects to your main router's Wi-Fi signal and re-broadcasts it, creating a larger coverage area. This is the most common mode for eliminating Wi-Fi dead zones.
5.2 AP Mode (Access Point)
In AP Mode, the device connects to your wired network (e.g., via an Ethernet cable from your router) and creates a new wireless network. This is useful for adding Wi-Fi capability to a wired-only network or for creating a separate Wi-Fi network.
6. Configuration
After logging into the web interface, you can configure the device for your desired operating mode.
6.1 Repeater Mode Configuration
- From the web interface, select Repeater Mode.
- The device will scan for available Wi-Fi networks. Select your main Wi-Fi network (SSID) from the list.
- Enter the password (security key) for your main Wi-Fi network.
- You can choose to keep the same SSID for the extended network or create a new one. It is generally recommended to use a different SSID (e.g., "YourNetwork_EXT") to easily distinguish between your main and extended networks.
- Click Apply or Save. The device will restart.
- Once restarted, unplug the repeater and move it to a location between your router and the Wi-Fi dead zone. Ensure it receives a good signal from your main router (check the LED indicator for signal strength).
- Connect your devices to the new extended Wi-Fi network.
6.2 AP Mode Configuration
- From the web interface, select AP Mode.
- Connect an Ethernet cable from your main router (or network switch) to the Ethernet port on the Gembird repeater.
- Configure the new Wi-Fi network's SSID (network name) and password (security key).
- Click Apply or Save. The device will restart.
- Once restarted, your new Wi-Fi network will be active. Connect your wireless devices to this new network.
6.3 Changing Login Credentials
For security, it is highly recommended to change the default administrator username and password for the repeater's web interface. Look for a 'System Tools' or 'Management' section within the interface to update these credentials.
7. Maintenance
Proper maintenance ensures the longevity and optimal performance of your Wi-Fi repeater.
- Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the device. Do not use liquid cleaners or aerosols.
- Firmware Updates: Periodically check the Gembird official website for firmware updates. Updating firmware can improve performance, add features, and fix bugs. Follow the instructions provided with the firmware update carefully.
- Placement: Ensure the device is placed in a well-ventilated area, away from direct sunlight, heat sources, and moisture. Avoid placing it near large metal objects or other electronic devices that may cause interference.
8. Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your Gembird Wi-Fi Repeater, refer to the following common problems and solutions.
- No Internet Access After Setup:
- Ensure the repeater is placed within a good signal range of your main router.
- Verify that you entered the correct Wi-Fi password for your main router during setup.
- Restart both your main router and the repeater.
- Try resetting the repeater to factory defaults and reconfigure it.
- Slow Connection Speed:
- Relocate the repeater closer to your main router to improve signal strength.
- Ensure there are no major obstructions (thick walls, metal objects) between the repeater and your devices, or between the repeater and the main router.
- Check for interference from other 2.4 GHz devices (e.g., cordless phones, microwaves).
- Cannot Access Web Interface:
- Ensure your device is connected to the repeater's Wi-Fi network or via Ethernet.
- Verify that you are using the correct IP address (192.168.10.1).
- Clear your browser's cache and cookies, or try a different browser.
- Temporarily disable any firewall or antivirus software on your computer.
- Resetting the Device:
- With the repeater powered on, use a paperclip or a thin object to press and hold the reset button for approximately 8 seconds until the LED indicators flash.
- Release the button. The device will restart with factory default settings. You will need to reconfigure it.
