5. Setup and Installation
The Buoan Smart Fingerprint Keypad Door Knob is designed for easy installation, typically completed within 10 minutes using a small screwdriver. It is compatible with most standard doors in the United States, suitable for both left and right-handed installations.
5.1. Door Compatibility
Ensure your door meets the following specifications:
- Backset: Adjustable 2-3/8 inches (60mm) or 2-3/4 inches (70mm).
- Door Thickness: 1.26 inches to 1.89 inches (32mm to 48mm).
- Cross Bore: 2-1/8 inches (54mm).

5.2. Installation Steps
- Prepare the Door: Ensure the door is properly prepped with the correct bore holes and backset.
- Install Latch: Insert the latch mechanism into the door edge and secure it with screws.
- Separate Knobs: As shown in Figure 5.2, locate the two long screws at the back of the interior knob. Unscrew them to separate the front (exterior) and back (interior) knobs.
- Install Exterior Knob: Insert the exterior knob through the door, ensuring the spindle aligns with the latch.
- Connect Wires: Carefully connect the power cord from the exterior knob to the interior knob.
- Install Interior Knob: Attach the interior knob, ensuring the spring-protruding part is correctly positioned. Secure both knobs using the long screws.
- Insert Batteries: Insert 4 x 1.5V AA alkaline batteries into the interior knob, ensuring correct polarity.
- Test Operation: Test all unlocking methods (mechanical key, keypad, fingerprint) to ensure proper function before closing the door.

6. Operating Instructions
Your Buoan Smart Fingerprint Keypad Door Knob offers four convenient ways to unlock your door.

6.1. Unlocking Methods
- Fingerprint Unlock: Place your registered finger on the fingerprint sensor. The lock will unlock in approximately 0.2 seconds if the fingerprint is recognized.
- Keypad Unlock: Enter your programmed passcode on the illuminated keypad, followed by the '#' key.
- App Unlock: Use the dedicated smartphone app (Tuya App) to remotely unlock the door via Bluetooth.
- Mechanical Key Unlock: In case of emergency or battery depletion, use the provided mechanical keys to unlock the door. The keyhole is located on the underside of the exterior knob.
6.2. App Control (Tuya App)
Download the Tuya Smart app from your smartphone's app store. Follow the in-app instructions to add your Buoan Smart Door Knob via Bluetooth.

- Add Lock: Use the app to pair your lock via Bluetooth.
- User Management: Add and delete fingerprints and passcodes for various users.
- Temporary Passwords: Generate one-time, periodic, or timed passwords for guests or service providers.
- Unlock Records: View a real-time log of unlocking events and incorrect passcode attempts.
- Remote Unlocking: Unlock the door remotely when within Bluetooth range.
- Settings: Adjust lock settings such as auto-lock duration, silent mode, and volume.

6.3. Special Modes
- Passage Mode: Activate this mode via the app to keep the door unlocked for continuous entry and exit, useful for high-traffic periods.
- Auto Lock: The lock can be configured to automatically re-lock after a short period (e.g., 3 seconds) once unlocked.
- Silent Mode: Enable this feature through the app to disable all sound prompts from the lock, providing quiet operation.
7. Maintenance
7.1. Battery Replacement
The lock requires 4 x 1.5V AA alkaline batteries (not included). When the battery level is low, the lock will provide an audible and/or visual indication. Replace all four batteries simultaneously, ensuring correct polarity. The lock retains all programmed settings during battery replacement.
7.2. Emergency Power
If the batteries are completely depleted, you can temporarily power the lock using a standard USB power bank connected to the emergency USB charging port on the exterior knob.

7.3. Cleaning
Clean the lock's exterior with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid using abrasive cleaners or solvents that could damage the finish or electronic components.
8. Troubleshooting
- Lock not responding: Check battery level and replace if necessary. Ensure the power cable connection between the knobs is secure.
- Fingerprint not recognized: Ensure your finger is clean and dry. Try re-registering your fingerprint in the app. Ensure the sensor is clean.
- Keypad not working: Verify the passcode is correct. Check for low battery.
- App connectivity issues: Ensure Bluetooth is enabled on your smartphone and you are within range of the lock. Restart the app or your phone.
- Lock does not engage/disengage properly: Check for any obstructions in the door frame or latch mechanism. Ensure the lock is installed correctly and all screws are tightened.
- No sound from lock: Check if Silent Mode is enabled in the app settings.
