Your guide to safe and effective use of your ILM helmet.

1. Introduction and Overview

The ILM Model 159 Modular Motorcycle Helmet is designed to provide superior protection and comfort for riders. This helmet features a modular flip-up design, dual visors, and an advanced ventilation system, meeting or exceeding DOT safety standards. Its lightweight ABS shell and high-density EPS liner ensure both safety and a comfortable riding experience.

2. Setup and Fit

2.1 Sizing and Proper Fit

A proper fit is crucial for safety and comfort. Refer to the size chart below to determine your correct helmet size. The helmet should fit snugly around your head without causing pressure points. Your cheeks should be compressed slightly, and the helmet should not move freely when you shake your head.

2.2 Adjusting the Quick Release Buckle

The helmet is equipped with a quick-release buckle for secure fastening and easy removal. To fasten, insert the male end into the female receiver until it clicks. To release, press the red button on the female receiver.

2.3 Removing Visor Protective Film

Before first use, carefully peel off any protective film from both the clear outer visor and the inner sun visor to ensure optimal visibility.

3. Operating the Helmet Features

3.1 Main Visor Operation

The clear outer visor can be easily raised and lowered. Use the tab located at the bottom center of the visor to lift it up or push it down. The visor has multiple detent positions for varying levels of opening.

3.2 Inner Sun Visor Operation

The inner dark sun visor provides additional eye protection from sunlight. It is operated by a switch located on the side of the helmet. Slide the switch forward to deploy the sun visor and backward to retract it.

3.3 Modular Flip-Up Mechanism

To raise the front section of the helmet, locate the release button/latch, typically found near the chin bar. Press the button and lift the chin bar upwards until it locks into the open position. To close, press the release button again and push the chin bar down until it securely latches.

3.4 Ventilation System

The helmet features multiple vents for optimal airflow. Adjust the front, top, and rear vents by sliding their respective covers to open or close them, controlling the internal air circulation.

4. Maintenance and Care

4.1 Cleaning the Helmet Shell

Clean the helmet's exterior with a soft cloth, mild soap, and lukewarm water. Avoid harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners, as they can damage the finish and protective coatings.

4.2 Cleaning Visors

The clear and sun visors should be cleaned with a soft, lint-free cloth and clean water. For stubborn dirt, use a specialized helmet visor cleaner. Do not use ammonia-based cleaners.

4.3 Removable and Washable Liner

The helmet's interior liner and cheek pads are removable and washable. Gently detach them from the helmet. Hand wash with mild soap and cold water, then air dry completely before reinserting. Ensure all components are dry to prevent mildew.

5. Safety Information
