Key Features

  • Natural Response Nipple: Designed to allow your baby to control the pace of milk flow, similar to breastfeeding. Milk is released only when actively drinking.
  • Premium Borosilicate Glass: Made from BPA-free, heat and thermal shock resistant glass, suitable for refrigeration, warming, and sterilization.
  • Wide, Soft Nipple: Mimics the shape and feel of a breast to facilitate easy latch-on and comfortable feeding, aiding in combining breast and bottle feeding.
  • No-Drip Design: Prevents milk loss from the nipple tip, reducing spills.
  • Anti-Colic Valve: Integrated into the nipple to direct air away from your baby's tummy, reducing colic and discomfort.
  • Silicone Sleeves: Provide protection for the glass bottles and enhance grip. An opening in the sleeve allows for easy reading of the bottle's scale.

Setup

Before First Use:

  1. Disassemble all parts: bottle, nipple, screw ring, and cap.
  2. Clean all components thoroughly using warm soapy water.
  3. Sterilize all parts by boiling for 5 minutes, using a steam sterilizer, or a Philips Avent sterilizer.
  4. Allow parts to cool and dry completely before assembly.

Assembly:

  1. Insert the Natural Response nipple into the screw ring from the top. Ensure the nipple is pulled through until it sits securely.
  2. Place the assembled nipple and screw ring onto the bottle. Twist clockwise until securely tightened. Do not overtighten.
  3. If using, slide the silicone sleeve onto the glass bottle. Ensure the scale opening aligns correctly.
  4. Place the cap over the nipple and screw ring for hygiene and spill prevention during transport.

Operating (Feeding Instructions)

Preparing a Feed:

  1. Ensure hands and all bottle components are clean.
  2. Prepare formula or express breast milk according to manufacturer's instructions or healthcare professional's advice.
  3. Fill the bottle to the desired volume.
  4. Attach the assembled nipple and screw ring firmly to the bottle.
  5. Always check the temperature of the feed before offering it to your baby by dripping a few drops onto your wrist.

Feeding Your Baby:

The Natural Response nipple is designed to work with your baby's natural feeding rhythm. Milk flows only when your baby actively sucks. When your baby pauses to swallow and breathe, the milk flow stops, just like during breastfeeding.

Nipple Flow Rates:

The Philips Avent Natural Response nipples are available in various flow rates to accommodate your baby's growth and feeding preferences. This set includes Flow 2 (slow) and Flow 3 (medium) nipples.

  • Flow 2 (Slow): Ideal for newborns and younger infants.
  • Flow 3 (Medium): Suitable for babies who require a slightly faster flow.

Observe your baby's feeding cues to determine the appropriate flow rate:

  • If milk leaks from your baby's mouth or they are gulping, try a lower flow nipple.
  • If your baby is playing with the nipple instead of drinking or seems frustrated, try a higher flow nipple.

Maintenance

Cleaning:

  1. Disassemble all parts.
  2. Wash thoroughly in warm soapy water. Use a bottle brush for bottles and a small nipple brush for nipples to ensure all areas are clean.
  3. Rinse all components thoroughly with clean water.
  4. The bottles and components are dishwasher safe (top rack only).

Sterilization:

Sterilize all parts before each use for babies under 6 months, and regularly thereafter.

  • Boiling: Place all disassembled parts in a pot of boiling water for 5 minutes. Ensure parts do not touch the sides of the pot to prevent damage.
  • Steam Sterilizer: Follow the instructions provided with your steam sterilizer.
  • Microwave Sterilizer: Follow the instructions provided with your microwave sterilizer.

Storage:

Store clean and dry bottles and components in a clean, dry, and covered container. Keep nipples out of direct sunlight or heat.

Troubleshooting

  • Leaking: Ensure the nipple is correctly inserted into the screw ring and the screw ring is tightened securely onto the bottle. Check for any damage to the nipple or sealing ring.
  • Slow Flow/Baby Frustration: Your baby may require a faster flow nipple. Refer to the 'Nipple Flow Rates' section to select an appropriate nipple.
  • Colic/Discomfort: The integrated anti-colic valve is designed to reduce air intake. Ensure the valve is clean and not blocked. If discomfort persists, consult a healthcare professional.
  • Glass Breakage: While made of durable borosilicate glass, extreme impacts can cause breakage. Always inspect bottles for cracks or chips before use. Silicone sleeves offer additional protection.
