Setup and First Use

  1. Unpacking: Carefully remove all components from the packaging. Inspect for any damage.
  2. Initial Cleaning: Before first use, wash the cooker body, lid, and gasket thoroughly with warm soapy water. Rinse well and dry completely. The item is not dishwasher safe.
  3. Gasket Placement: Ensure the rubber gasket is properly seated in the groove on the underside of the lid.
  4. Vent Weight: Place the vent weight onto the steam vent pipe on the lid.

Operating Instructions

1. Filling the Cooker

  • Add food and liquid to the cooker. Do not fill more than two-thirds full for most foods. For frothy foods like dal, do not fill more than half full to prevent sprouting.

2. Closing the Lid

  • Place the lid onto the cooker body, ensuring the gasket is correctly positioned.
  • Align the lid handle with the body handle. The Miss Mary cooker features an inside-fitting lid, which is pressure-locked for safety and will not open under pressure.
  • Close the lid by rotating the handle until it locks securely. A slight "play" or movement in the handle bar is normal and designed for better sealing.

3. Heating and Pressure Build-up

  • Place the cooker on a gas stove. This model is recommended for use on gas stoves.
  • Heat the cooker on high flame until steam starts to escape from the vent pipe.
  • Once steam is steadily escaping, place the vent weight onto the vent pipe. Pressure will begin to build inside the cooker.
  • The superior pressure regulating system controls pressure to a narrower, more efficient range, reducing the sprouting of frothy foods.

4. Opening the Cooker Safely

  • After cooking, turn off the heat. Allow the pressure to release naturally until the steam stops escaping from the vent pipe and the pressure indicator drops.
  • Alternatively, for faster pressure release, you can place the cooker under cold running water, ensuring water does not enter the vent.
  • Once all pressure is released, carefully open the lid by rotating the handle. Never force the lid open if there is still pressure inside.

Maintenance and Care

  • Cleaning: Wash the cooker body and lid with warm soapy water after each use. Rinse thoroughly and dry. Do not use abrasive cleaners or steel wool. This pressure cooker is not dishwasher safe.
  • Gasket Care: The gasket has minimum exposure to steam and does not rub every time the product is opened and closed, which helps it last longer. Inspect the gasket regularly for cracks or damage. Replace if necessary.
  • Safety Valve: The safety valve is located under the lid handle bar, deflecting steam downwards if it operates. Ensure the safety valve is clean and free from food particles. It operates reliably due to its proprietary eutectic alloy.
  • Vent Weight: Keep the vent weight and vent pipe clean to ensure proper steam release.
  • Handles: The stay-cool handles are designed for comfort. The fixed sturdy pivot is part of the metal handle itself, ensuring handles last longer.

Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your pressure cooker, please refer to the following common solutions:

  • Steam Leakage:
    • Ensure the lid is properly closed and locked.
    • Check the rubber gasket for proper seating, damage, or wear. Replace if necessary.
    • Verify that the vent weight is correctly placed on the vent pipe.
    • The cooker is 100% leak-tested to ensure it will not leak under normal operation.
  • Pressure Not Building:
    • Confirm the vent weight is on the vent pipe.
    • Check for any steam leaks from the lid or safety valve.
    • Ensure sufficient liquid is inside the cooker to generate steam.
  • Lid Difficult to Open:
    • Ensure all internal pressure has been released. Never force the lid.
    • Check if the gasket is stuck; gently pry it loose if needed after pressure is fully released.
  • "Play" in Handle Bar: This is a normal design feature for better sealing and is not a defect.
